About Me

Hi. I'm 62 years old and love getting away from the West every so often, exploring different cultures and landscapes, working out how to get a bus, planning next move, and hopefully sharing a tea, a beer, a meal with someone who speaks a bit of English that I've met at a cafe or asked for directions. Luckily my very well-travelled kids sometimes come with me - they don't mind walking for hours to find some place that someone said we should go to, but more often I am on my own, grabbing a couple of weeks away from my job as a designer for a book publisher. I play tennis and squash and even football still, and cycle round my home town of London, and I write techno-dancey-indie music tracks in my spare time. Recently I went through Uzbekistan and a bit of Kyrgyzstan on my own, and Vietnam with my kids. (By the way, the photos I have of my home are a bit out of date since they were taken when I was renting my space out, so it's not quite as clean! I'll update them when I get round to it)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

If I can find someone who can speaks a bit of English and give me some insight into the local psyche, that seems so much more fulfilling than checking into an apartment or hotel. And I'd love to offer a place to stay in my home in Camden, in a very cool part of London. More immediately, I'm going to Kazakhstan at the end of June 2023, and then to Kyrgyzstan for a few days, and it would be nice to hook up ...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Went to the Ethiopian desert to see sulphur springs and an open volcano, in what claims to be the hottest place on earth (by 24-hour average: the temperature, unlike most hotter places, doesn't drop at night time)
