Overview
About Me
I am 25 years old, and very soon I will be a first time solo backpacker to Europe.
While I am passionate about my travelling in my homeland, I am also keen to experience new places and cultures, and I enjoy getting to know new people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We live in a world of countless cultures, languages, beliefs, ecosystems....
Traveling means learning. It means connecting with new people and new places.
I believe the best way to understand the world is through creating connections with the people who know it best at the local level.
I am off on a grand adventure in Europe, leaving New Zealand on the 9th of March 2015 and returning at the end of May. I am quite nervous about all this, but am looking forward to stepping into the unknown, learning a lot, facing a some challenges, all the while having as much fun as possible.
I am new to Couchsurfing, but I am ready to connect with other surfers and hosts, and in doing so I hope to develop as a global citizen.
Interests
Music! I play keyboard and guitar and enjoy a good sing-song. Wellington (NZ) has great variety in its music scene (the city is also famous for its coffee and craft beer)
I am very active and love surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding , touch rugby and other sports.
I also love hiking in the outdoors.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have a very broad music taste, ranging from jazz, blues, electronic, rap , classical! I was brought up in a musical family so I appreciate music in its many forms.
Films - I love quirky movies e.g. Michel Gondry, Wes Anderson, Woody Allen, but sometimes resort to the odd Hollywood blockbuster. My favourite movie is the Dark Knight.
Books - currently working though George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, but I mainly read interesting non-fiction books.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In January 2015 I played guitar, piano accordion and sang in front of a international television cricket audience with a rag-tag bunch of people I'd met 400km away... four days earlier!
I have traveled in my car on three separate occasions with different groups to the top of the North Island (Cape Reinga), where the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean merge.
I have woken up on New Year's Day in Raglan, New Zealand, and shared waves with professionals first thing in the morning.
Teach, Learn, Share
I work in the area of environmental policy for the government in New Zealand - so I am very interested in learning about the environment and geography of other countries (including cities, country-side, coastlines and communities).
Again... music! If you've got a piano or guitar I'd love to share with you.
What I Can Share with Hosts
New Zealand knowledge! There are only a few places I have not visited in New Zealand and I look forward to sharing my experiences with hosts.
I will be backpacking around Europe, sometimes solo and sometimes with my older brother.
