CURRENT MISSION

I'm looking for a few couches in Japan in december/early January to stay on with my girlfriend Renae.

ABOUT ME

Renae and I have been dating for close to a year now and are interested in meeting new people, exploring the sights of Japan and all of the cuisine in it. Renae is currently studying graphic design at TAFE and I am currently studying a bachelor of music, both in Newcastle (our home town). We're both outwardly friendly people and are up for anything at all!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I travelled through Europe for 6 months and used couchsurfing.org extensively. Renae has never used couchsurfing.org but loves the idea of it. We're both currently living in our parent's houses but plan on being able to host upon leaving our parents place.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed through the UK, France, Poland, The Czech Republic, Macedonia, Croatia and extensively throughout the east cost of Australia.

Interests

Both Renae and I are avid fans of music, the arts, good food, history, and much of the Japanese Culture. We'd like to see a lot of both the old and the new that Japan has to offer, and perhaps taste as many different kinds of Udon along the way too. We're interested in catching up with people from local music scenes, and record stores, and hopefully come back with some amazing music gear.
Renae spent three years studying Japanese, so she has some basic knowledge of Japan, but hopefully can relearn anything she's forgotten along the way and ultimately learn even more.

We're both heavily involved in the newcastle music scene and plan on bringing aspects of this with us to Japan. I work in a record store that is the home base for a local record tape label and I plan on bringing plenty of cassettes to hand out to local record stores or anyone who is interested. I play in a few bands based in Newcastle, which can be found here-

Music, Movies, and Books

Renae - My favourite movies are usually those that are animated, scary or science fiction. I'm a big fan of Studio Ghibli Films especially.
Likewise, I love to read science fiction and horror books. I'm a big Stephen King fan.
I'm fairly open with music, however I'm particularly inclined to things with jazzy, hip hop and heavier bass elements. Some of my favourite musicians are Portishead, DJ Krush, and DIgital Mystikz.

Oliver- I'm not particularly fussy with movies. I like Science Fiction films above anything else, but really I'll watch anything really. Actually romantic comedies are my secret love (but Renae hates them. She has no soul).
As for music, I have a lot of favourites. At this point in time, I am more inclined towards bands such as La Dispute, Touchè Amorè, Defeater, Pianos Become The Teeth, Modern Life Is War and Title Fight, however, I love Elliott Smith and will probably try to cover some of his music for you.
