Hi! My name is Olivia, and this is a joint account for my friend Mimi and I. We're friends who are in a gap year between high school and university, currently exploring some of Europe after having lived in the Seychelles doing an environmental internship together.

Fun facts about us:
When we start travelling, we'll both be 19. We don't smoke, and we're very chill and easy-going! We'll have our ukuleles with us & love to play music and sing with people! We like hiking, biking, exploring new cities, coffee ;), and cooking, among other things. We're super independent, so don't feel like you need to stick around, although we'd love to hang out if you're up for it.

We've known each other since we were 13, when we met in school because people kept mistaking us for each other. We've been best pals since then, and formed a little strings duo where I play violin and Mimi plays cello. We've had lots of fabulous experiences together, and look forward to many more (hopefully with some fun couch surfing hosts too)!

After graduating high school in June 2017, we both worked several part-time jobs (Bulk Health Food shop, Cafes, Bar & Grill, teaching music, etc.) and also organized and hosted a coffee house fundraiser called Clear the Path to raise money for landmine victim assistance and mine clearance efforts.

In January, we set off for the Seychelles, where we lived for 4 months as we completed our volunteer internship with a local NGO, Wildlife Clubs of Seychelles. Now, we're having a month of new sights, experiences, and friends in Europe before heading home to Canada!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Mimi and I will be travelling through France, Germany, and the Netherlands for a month (between May 17th and June 17th), which we are very excited about! We've heard that couch surfing is an amazing way to meet new people and really explore the cities we visit with the help of locals, while making great memories.

Music, Movies, and Books

We're always happy to listen to new musical genres and explore new artists! Some favorite bands include Le Vent du Nord, Beirut, July Talk, Born Ruffians, Alt-J, De Temps Antan, Stromae, and The Beatles.

Favourite books include: the Harry Potter series (of course!), the Secret Life of Bees, Purple Hibiscuses, The White Bone, Mister Pip, The Kite Runner, and many many more. We're both currently reading Game of Thrones, having just finished all 6 seasons within 2 months... :)

Some favourite movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kings of Summer, and I (Olivia) have a soft spot for the Narnia movies. We're both really open to new movies and genres, but are both scaredy-cats, so horror movies aren't really our thing!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the cool things we've done together was when we organized and hosted a coffee house fundraiser to raise money for refugee relief on the ground in Syria and surrounding countries. It was a really amazing experience, because our entire community came together for a great night of food, music, and shared stories!
