Hey, my name is Olivia and I'm 26 years old. I was born in Cologne and study medicine in this beautiful city since 2016. Currently, I finished my Erasmus in Sevilla, Spain. My motto for life is: Life is too damn short to be unhappy - I'm always trying to stay optimistic and to see the positive aspects of things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a very outgoing person and love to get in touch with new, openhearted people. I've made the experience that it's so interesting and often inspirational to talk to people from outside your own little cosmos. Also, I really hope to travel more during the next years! I think that you really get a more authentic impression of places when getting to know locals and being shown around, in contrast to just staying at a hotel. Furthermore, I'd love to show some of you around Cologne and prove to you how exceptionally wonderful this city is, whatever some people say.

Music, Movies, and Books

I always find it so hard to answer this question!

Some of my favorite musicians are Lana del Rey, Billie Eilish, Lily Allen, Maisie Peters, Tom Walker, Alvaro Soler, Coldplay, Queen...

Movies that really inspired me are for example The Physician (obviously), Brain on Fire, Murder on the Orient Express, but I also love Spirited Away, Mamma Mia, Bohemian Rhapsody, Sex and the City, The Devil wears Prada...

Same thing with books, I don't know how many books I read in my life so far but these are some of my all time favorites: Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote, The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren and, acutually needless to say, Harry Potter bei J. K. Rowling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taking a kayak tour and eating the best tapas (in my opinion) in Sevilla, climbing Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica, swimming with stingrays in the Cayman Islands, drinking Coco Locos on Cajo Levantado, exploring Pompei and the Vesuvius, enjoying amazing vegan food at markets in London after not knowing what to choose for ages, spending too much money (and too much time standing in line) on fancy cafes in Amsterdam

Teach, Learn, Share

In my opinion, none of us knows what life is holding for us. So I try to worry less, be more spontaneously, laugh more and make the best out of things even when the circumstances aren't great. One of my beliefs also is that, when you're old, you'll probably regret more the things you didn't do than the little risks you took.
That's the kind of mindset I'm trying to establish for myself. I personally came to the conclusion that our perception of our environment is based on the mindset we choose and that it might differ a lot because of all the different experiences we made in life. So it's very interesting to me to talk to other people about their believes, experiences, the place they came from... because there is no wrong way of perceiving life, just different perspectives :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I live in a student residence, I can't offer you a place to sleep. But if your up for a visit to Cologne, I'd love to give you some tips, show you around the city, pick some nice food and drinks and have good conversations. Also, I'd really like to teach you some German, improving my English and Spanish in return would also be nice.
