My favorite was being picked up whilest hitch-hiking in New Zealand, give a place to stay, dinner, and breakfast the next day.

Books: Kerouac, Raymond Chandler, I mostly read non-fiction because the real world is just so fascinating.
Music: Too much to list. I like just about any type of music.
