About Me

Hi People!
I'm Omar, I'm 31 years old and right now I'm ending my masters in International Relations.

Speaking about traveling, I believe that is the best way of keeping yourself young and feeling alive. Knowing about other cultures and cities is a wonderful experience and a golden chance to improve yourself through the exchange of ideas and experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A lot of friends told me that I should try the experience of Couchsurfing, so I'm here to have the chance of traveling with this community and also give something back to the other couch surfers by offering my place to other people.

Interests

First, my theme of study are Global Cities, so traveling around big and cultural cities is my prime interest.

Also, I'm huge fan of Cinema and Movies. My favorite directors are Andrei Tarkovsky, Charles Chaplin and Alejandro González Iñárritu. I'm always looking for places that has been recorded in movies.

Another interest right now it's Photography. A good photo it's always a beautiful memento of a piece of life; so elegance and honesty must be an inspiration to make a good picture.

Music, Movies, and Books

As I told before, Culture is important.

In Music, Rock is my favorite genre: Interpol, Oasis, Soda Stereo, Cafe Tacvba, Calle 13, among other are my favorite bands. Also, Cumbia and latin music are a deep fascination for me.

Movies is a huge deal for me; so I'll keep it simple: Inception, Modern Times, Stalker, The Lord of the Rings, Pan's Labyrinth, 7 Samurais, and so on and so on... I could keep talking about movies all the time, and I'm always looking for new films.

Books and Literature are important also. My favorite book is "Pedro Paramo" from Mexican author Juan Rulfo. A beautiful book, full of poetic images that shows a lot about Mexican culture; I always carry it as a Talisman. "Rayuela" from Argentinian author Julio Cortazar, it deals about a lot of things such as the vision from the artistic side of Latin-Americans intellectuals in Europe and the connection between Buenos Aires and Paris, both my favorite cities.

I love talking about culture, and I'm always looking up to know more about such themes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The first time that I travelled was to Uruguay as an educational exchange. I was younger and filled with a lot excitement about knowing Latin America.

Food is not that cheap in Uruguay, so I got skinnier and at the end, it didn't matter much, because I got the chance to know a lot of amazing people, specially friends that are in my heart; and also people that stayed in Guadalajara, showed me that no matter where you go, a true friend stays for live.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm still learning a lot of things, but surely with a cup of coffee or a good beer, I can teach some things about latin american culture, specially Cinema and Literature

Learning is important, so in every conversation I want to learn the most I can about other people's life and journeys. Overall, cultures of the places where I travel and obviously, Cinema.

About sharing, you're welcome to stay in my city, Guadalajara. A huge city that always has its heart open to travelers that want to know about amazing paintings, for example the Murals of the Mexican Revolution; good food such as Tacos al Pastor; drinks such as Tequila and amazing people that are always eager to show this city to the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good food, obviously. Specially spicy food from Mexico.

A good walk through the city, with information about cool things that happen everyday.

The best bars and restaurant to get to know the traditional food and drinks.

And also, if you're a huge cinema fan we can have greats movies, a good picture and a good talk.
