About Me

Hellooooo,

I'm happy to meet you. My name is Omar. I was born and raised in Mexico but I've been moving around for most of my adult life. My biggest passion is Buddhism/spirituality, which I have practiced for around 10 years now. I also recently started practicing yoga.

I'm a very laid back and open-minded person. I think I'm pretty easy to be around. I'm always down for an intense philosophical conversation, but also just a chill chat, play board games or go for an adventure.

Other than the whole Buddhism thing, I love to read (and write), watch movies (preferably artsy), and blah, blah, you know, all that stuff. If we get along I'll probably have a bunch of stuff to recommend you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it's such a cool concept! I'd love to meet new people and learn about a place from the locals.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Bob Dylan (!!!), Radiohead, a lot of classic Rock, Miles Davis, Café Tacvba (objectively the bes Mexican band of all time), Fleet Foxes...

Movies:
The Lord of the Rings, Tarkovsky, Kurosawa, all that stuff. I loved the new animated Spiderman movies.

Books:
Other than all the buddhist stuff, DOSTOEVSKI (Brothers Karamazov is the greatest book ever written imho), Schopenhauer, Cortázar, Borges, Harry Potter are my comfort food books, The Man who Was Thursday (brownie points if you know that one), Walt Withman, A Hundred Years of Solitude, Vargas Llosa, etc, etc...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in a monastery for around three months, which was probably the best experience of my life.

I'd be super happy to do a guided meditation with you!

I can teach Spanish.
