About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to shrink the world so it all fits inside my head

ABOUT ME

I am originally from coastal New Jersey. I went to college in Vermont, then took a few extra years there. I also lived in Florida briefly before moving to San Francisco in 2012.

I couchsurfed my way across the USA in 2011-2012 when I rode my bicycle from Oregon to south Florida. It was pretty neat. I have lots of stories to share from that adventure.

I spend most of my time in SF sailing (teaching, racing and cruising), riding my bicycle around, eating yummy food, trying new beer and beverages and swimming in the ocean. I love to meet new people and tell stories and hear about other people's travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really love meeting people when I travel and getting a more local experience. Couch surfing has helped me see sides of cities and places that I'd never see otherwise. I want to help everybody get to know everybody else a little bit better. I think that would help some of the problems in this crazy world a little bit.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed (and used WarmShowers) on a cross country bicycle trip. I spent about 50 nights over 5 months staying with complete strangers and loved it. There is something so awesome about what CS does and how it completely changes your perception of a place.

Interests

I am really interested in bikes and biking, building and fixing bikes, looking at bikes, anything bike related at all.

Another big passion I have is sailing. I've been a certified instructor for 13 years now, but have been sailing all my life. I like cruising, racing and I really like teaching other people how to sail. I really enjoy sailing with people who don't have much experience with the sailing/boating/aquatic world.

I also enjoy local stuff, like local food, local entertainment, local businesses. I am interested in seeing communities all over insulate themselves from the outside; not for any xenophobic reasons, but for the healthy, happy and sustainable lifestyles that this encourages.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like reading, specifically John Steinbeck types, mixing lots of philosophy in to beautiful landscapes and classic stories.

As a musician, I really like listening to all kinds of music; new, old, loud, soft. I like finding new music. For some reason, I couldn't really ever get into punk.

I like a lot of movies, but not all. I definitely like Star Trek though...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 17, I was in a car accident and I lost my left leg below my knee. It has definitely affected my life a good bit, but it has been for the better; now I live life to the fullest, I don't waste time, and I don't hesitate to do or say what I think is right.
I am totally cool talking about it to anybody, especially complete strangers. I welcome all questions and conversation.
