About Me

Hello,

My name is Andrew Nguyen. I currently work as a newsroom developer at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in Missouri. I'm originally from the suburb of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto.

If you plan on visiting St. Louis, I’m more than willing to show people around, recommend a great place to eat or things to do in the city. I hope to play a more active role hosting people in the near future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travel has been such a rewarding experience, especially for someone like me who caught the travel bug much later in life. The people I’ve met during my trips to Winnipeg, Louisville, Baltimore and New York City have become great friends.

I have been amazed by the generosity of people who have helped and reached out to me when I’ve been looking for a place to stay. And for those who are on the fence, it really is a great community to be apart of.

My mantra while travelling has been to explore new things, step out of your comfort zone and see where the adventure takes you.

Interests

I love hearing other people's stories, but what brings me joy is journalism, technology, design, pop culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

It's hard to pick favourites, but here's a shortlist of bands that I've seen over the years (in no particular order): RZA, Ludacris, Phantogram, Wintersleep, Tokyo Police Club, Basia Bulat, Hot Hot Heat, Hey Rosetta!, Rich Aucoin, Coeur de Pirate, Devo, Cults.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Thanks to some of my hosts, I’ve been able to attend a circus show, participate in a hackathon at Conde Nast, attend two journalism conferences, kickstart my career, play trampoline dodgeball, salsa dancing and more.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to hear about some of the stories I've worked during my time as a reporter, my experience playing Quidditch or what makes Toronto great, you've come to the right place.
