About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Wander the world, learn languages, read, go to theater, and... FIND A NEW JOB...
ABOUT ME
I am a world-wandering English teacher, currently looking for work outside of the cubicle I now occupy. My first job brought me to Arizona. Then I had dreams about moving to Europe for graduate study, and I did it. However, after a few months in Belgium, I could not get an extension on my visa, so I had to return to the US. While in Europe, I couch surfed and stayed at hostels.
I try to travel for two months of every year. When I was teaching, summers were the travel months--but lately, I find that all of December works well for my schedule.
Life landed me in Norman, Oklahoma. I'll be working here for a while, and studying grad school when I have the time. More often than not I do have the time--but I use it to travel instead.
PHILOSOPHY
"May your beliefs be challenged, and may you come to comfortable conclusions. May you find perfection, and know it by name."
When you travel the world, your beliefs will be shaken, shattered, re-shaped, and some times reinforced by the people you meet. Seek out challenge wherever you go; you will be a stronger person because of it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Bands are hosted regularly at my place, since I live close to some of Oklahoma's best dive bars for up and coming music. I have surfed a few couches in Europe, seen a number of the States via couches, and now I host surfers in Norman, Oklahoma. I spent a good part of December wandering around the Pacific Northwest, and met some fantastic surfers in Seattle and Portland.
Some larger groups stay at my place--eight surfers in one night!
I also host the occasional concert in my living room.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have surfed in Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, and Bosnia. One of the hosts in Czech Republic brought me to wine country in Moravia, and to a bar where you tap your own beer! In turn, I brought her to the historic Jewish ghetto in Prague and got to share a whole bunch of history (and delicious kosher food). I've surfed Memphis, Portland, Seattle, and parts of Oklahoma as well. I also know a few surfers in the Colorado area if you need to meet some good people.
