About Me

CURRENT MISSION
To learn 2 more languages before we die and to be able to belly-rub our cat without being mauled.

ABOUT ME
Ori:
Long time vegan (18 years and counting), peace activist and an atheist.
Studied agriculture and plant biology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (which is actually located in Rehovot and not in Jerusalem) and worked at a garden center /plant nursery for the last 9 years.
I LOVE plants and gardening (plant fanatics of the world- unite!), running (10-21 K), hiking and cats- most preferably at the same time.

Maayan:
Been vegan for the past 9 years and cat lover since birth.
I sudied environmental engineering at the Israeli institute of technologu (IIT).
I worked at a lab researching relations between raw sewage and soil for almost 3 years.
I love cats (like, REALLY), reading and listening to almost anything from psychedelic rock to traditional world music.

PHILOSOPHY

Wake up and put the past where it belongs.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We surfed in several countries and met unbelievably nice people. To this day we only hosted three times.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

See the paragraph above. Because we live in a small "village" almost no one wants to surf at our place (even though it's not far from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem) but the people that DID come got a pretty good deal, or so we believe.
Anyway, CS is simply an amazing idea and an amazing experience- we both think it's the most ecological, friendliest and truest kind of getting to know people from around the globe.

Interests

Trekking, hiking, cats, music, movies, books, fitness, cats (yet again), science, ecology, plants, food and meeting new people.

We love watching documentaries, science shows and cartoons and we adore our cat, although apart from occasionally farting at our general direction he usually doesn't give a damn about us (we love all the other cats as well and some of the doggies too).

Music, Movies, and Books

We'll hear, see and read anything as long as it makes us think.

We're always looking for new stuff to listen to and to read, although we don't have the time to do it all...

Ori:
My favorite books are "The Hyperion Cantos" by Dan Simmons and "The Hobbit" by Tolkien. I also read a whole lot of Stephen King and Douglas Adams.
Favorite music ranges from Paradise Lost through Blind Melon to Dead Can Dance to Lamb Of God. If it's good i'm in.

Maayan:
I really like old 60's-70's psychedelic rock music like Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer, The Meters and many more.
My favourite author is John Irving and I really like picking random old books at the library (currently on a Russian phase but it'll change soon enough).

Oh yeah, when it comes to movies we like either thought provoking documentaries or super low humor stupid comedies (just can't get enough of those toilet jokes!).
We also really like to watch cartoons- Gravity Falls, Family Guy, Regular show and more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ori:
Went alone on a month-long hitchhiking, trekking and wildcamping trip though the woods and trails of Ireland and Scotland (both the Wicklow Way and the West Highland Way).
Maayan:
Lived with Ori for the last few years without killing him in his sleep.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach you about all the rights and wrongs in petting a cat.
Ori can show you some of the fastest ways known to mankind in getting on someone's nerves and Maayan can give you a crash course in being a crazy cat lady.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, how many of you have really had the chance to meet people from Israel and talk with them about whatever? We can also teach you some sewing, a few chosen phrases in Hebrew, some knowledge about plant caring and gardening.
Plus- we can cook (vegan food only) and help with whatever you need (we helped one of the previous hosts to install a shelf, for example).

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey
