Music, Movies, and Books

George Orwell is probably my favourite fictional writer; mostly on the weight of 1984 and his essays. I'm partial to the more contemporary likes of Will Self and DBC Peirre too. Ian Banks also occupies alot of space on my bookshelves. In terms of non-fiction the philisopgical/political writer John Gray takes pride of place. (Thats not the John Gray who wrote 'Men are from Venus and Women are from Mars' but the one who wrote 'Straw Dogs').

In terms of Art and Music I appreciate anything I deem progressive or uniquely intuitive (that covers any emotional crap i might reluctantly like). That's about it..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled through the Carpathian and Transylvanian mountains on a train with the double doors open, dangling feet, big old knuckles of stone protruding from swathes of Green with the intermittent appearance of soviet era tower blocks; surreal stuff, swithchbacks and Babushka's (Bucharest to Brasov).
Drinking with British soldiers on leave from Sarajevo in Zagreb... Lunatics..
The road from Split to Mostar in Bosnia; shelled out buildings and every square inch of masonry has a bullet hole in it. Still one of the most beautiful countries I've seen. You can't beat the Balkan's
Overlooking the skyline of Moulay Idriss ,site of Muslim pilgrimage in Morocco with the roman ruins of Volubolis on the skyline at sunset. Also in Morocco being invited to dinner with a complete stranger and her family, phenomenal hospitality, eating barehanded from a communal bowl.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to make a pizza from scatch, dough and all. I also teach and lead a samba drumming brand.

Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom
