I'm new to the site of couchsurfing itself, but not to the act, not by any means. I'm very familiar with travel culture and what it brings, and love meeting new people when they're traveling, because I believe it brings out the best in you. I've worked in a hostel in Alaska before meeting travelers for a summer, and was amazed by how accommodating fellow travelers can be.
