About Me

I'm a professional photographer, I shoot weddings and events, portraits and news/ editorial. Currently living solo in a one bedroom apartment which I've converted into a photo studio.
When I'm not working I love to do street photography (still kind of working), go for walks around the harbour, see live music, drink cocktails and play pool. I also love a game of poker (winner gets the drinks) and cards against humanity. I know most of the best hidden bars in the city and enjoy engaging conversation, exchanging stories and tips about travel and eating nibbles. I don't own a TV but can offer wifi and a fairly quiet, secure place close to the city.

My work is irregular so being a bit flexible with meeting up and coming to and from the apartment is important to consider, I only have one set of keys and no-one else to let you in if I'm not home but I will do what I can to make practical arrangements so you know when I'll be home.

I only accept guests with references.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've enjoyed both hosting and being hosted in the couch surfing community, and when the stars align, I'm aiming to make a few trips overseas in the next year or so. For me, couch surfing is a great way to travel when blended with a mix of staying at hotels and hostels depending on the place and to help stretch the budget to allow me to afford activities and meals out (always happy to invite the host) but importantly, there are few better ways to get to know a place than to experience it with locals - tips and insights welcome!
While visiting Europe again, especially alpine areas is on my wishlist, my next major trip will likely be NYC during the US election period - hoping to witness the zeitgeist of this historical moment while walking around the city that exists in my head as song lyrics, venues, scenes in the books I read as well as the haunts of street photographers and artists. If all I do is walk everyday around the various burrows, it will be a worthwhile trip.
I will aim to make arrangements to do fashion style street portraits with NY backgrounds while there. Looking forward to meeting real New Yorkers!

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately I've been reading books by Tom Robbins, Norman Mailer, history and art history books, street photography coffee table books and 90's fashion and photography magazines. Ahhhh nostalgia. I listen a wide variety of music genres, depending on the mood and occasion and I listen to news and podcasts most of my other waking hours and sometimes the sleeping ones too, for a bit of company.
I've been watching political shows on YouTube such as Planet America and its sister shows Fireside Chat and the podcast PEP (Planet Extra Podcast) - they are all on YouTube with weekly episodes.
After the drought of live music in Sydney due to the draconian lockout laws, noise complaint related venue closures and then covid, I now value live music more than ever and I consider it a personal duty to support pubs and bars that put on and pay for live music by being a regular and supportive patron. I cannot bear to see further regression in live music. It is one of the only things that makes my life worth living.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Couldn't say I've done anything particularly amazing, just a number of sub amazing experiences that if told to someone 100 years ago, would probably blow their minds.

Teach, Learn, Share

Always looking to practice learning languages and when time permits, cooking and making cocktails. I can also teach camera and editing techniques and how to get the most out of your travel photography.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Photography and travel for me is almost synonymous - if I'm travelling, I'm travelling to photograph the culture and features of the destination in several ways. Travel photography can be landscape/ cityscape/ seascape, street style and portrait, abstract, immersive, voyeuristic, setup and candid and much more. So it is in my nature to have at least a minimalist kit with me always so I can capture the unexpected or do professional work, such as headshots and portraits at short notice. This can include my host! Whatever the profession or hobby or environment, I will be more than happy to be your photographer as a thank you for hosting me. I've posted some examples of past work in my CS photos if you are interested. Please let me know when we are discussing the stay if you would like to organise to do a photoshoot and you will be sent the results shortly after we shoot to use on CS, LinkedIn etc.
My favourite way to do this would be to go somewhere you love hanging out and take photos with different backgrounds and interweave meals and a few drinks as we go. If you want to go all out, we can do some op-shopping or pre-shoot styling and even organise hair and makeup if you like that sort of thing. I do this for a living so you can be sure you will feel comfortable and have a fun time!
