About Me

Namaste, I’m Oshan Lepcha, born and raised in the lap of the Himalayas. I have an unquenchable thirst for travel, meeting new people, and exploring diverse cuisines, while learning about the rich cultural heritage of the region.

I am deeply committed to promoting sustainable tourism by connecting communities and empowering youth and women. My work focuses on fostering rural tourism through homestays and community based initiatives. I firmly believe in preserving the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of India by ensuring that tourism is rooted in authentic local traditions and knowledge. I organize training and skill development programs for host communities, creating meaningful connections between hosts and guests resulting in a win win situation for all.

Growing up in Himalayan villages, I experienced firsthand the challenges of life in the hills. These experiences inspired me to dedicate myself to improving the lives of local communities. Rural tourism is key to the upliftment of these communities and plays a crucial role in preserving the ICH of India. My mission is to blend my passion for travel and cultural heritage with community development and empowerment.

To me, tourism is more than travel, it is about people to people connections, cultural exchange, and creating inclusive opportunities that celebrate our shared humanity and diverse traditions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because travel, for me, is not just about destinations it’s about people, stories, and shared experiences. I believe the world becomes smaller and more beautiful when we open our homes, hearts, and cultures to one another.

Meeting new people from different countries allows me to understand diverse ways of life, traditions, and perspectives. Every conversation, shared meal, or walk through a local neighborhood becomes a powerful form of cultural exchange, far richer than any guidebook experience.

I love connecting with travelers who are curious, respectful, and eager to learn about local culture while sharing their own. Through Couchsurfing, I hope to build meaningful friendships across borders and travel the globe not as a tourist, but as a responsible traveler and cultural learner.

Traveling this way helps promote mutual respect, sustainability, and global harmony values I deeply believe in. For me, Couchsurfing is not just about staying somewhere; it’s about belonging everywhere.
