About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a curious, information consuming, cold open water swimming guy that loves anything related to design, music and food. I currently live in Cape Town.

PHILOSOPHY

To learn something every moment and to make a lot of very little time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing back in 2010 after reading about it in a flight magazine: I initially loved the idea and so immediately signed up to experience couchsurfing and meeting fellow travelers for a solo European tour which I did that Christmas holiday.

The main reason now is to open my couch to people visiting Cape Town, and to meet people who speak Spanish such that I can improve it. Hopefully meet lifelong international friends. Obviously also love to use Couchsurfing to travel.

Interests

I hate questions such as these - they ultimately cannot be fully answered. However, let me try:
I love discovering new music from artists that are difficult to find. Otherwise any music that is melancholic and worth the listen. I also really enjoy seeing bands live, but due to the fact that I live in South Africa...we mostly only get the big bands and not smaller ones.
Architecture, design and art interests me as well - and I always have my eyes on my surroundings and taking in how people designed anything (from a bus stop to a wine bottle's label) for human usage. Most of my trips I look for important architecture.
Another important interest I have is swimming, the cold open water variety in particular. Back in South Africa, I regularly take part in charity swims from Robben Island and other open water swims in the Atlantic ocean.
I have a blog - but its quite cryptic and in afirkaans (but I could give you an idea of my interest as well.)
Just search "oslolso" and you can find me anywhere online.

Music, Movies, and Books

Just a taste of what I'm into:
Movies: The Virgin Suicides, A Single Man, Inception, The Royal Tenenbaums & C.R.A.Z.Y.
Books: I really enjoy a good book, but a little ADHD makes it difficult to stick to a book. And at the moment I'm still 'reading' a lot of notes for my actuarial exams.
Music: Too much to mention! At the moment I'm listening a lot to Sleigh Bells, MGMT, Beach House, Jamie xx, Phoenix, Devendra Banhart - and lots of Frenchy music. (See my last.fm profile: www.last.fm/user/oslolso )

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've swum to Cape Town from Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned) in very cold ocean waters (12℃) where sharks are known to live.
