About Me

I teach computers, and love technology. I don't party, don't smoke, don't do drugs, etc. I'm not interested in hosting people into those things...nothing personal, just not into that. Recently purchased a house and moved into it...so I'm still in the process of unpacking, decorating, etc. I have a dog who sheds a good amount, so don't wear black around the house. haha He's a great dog though, and you will love him (unless you have a fear of dogs).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting new people and preferably having "authentic" experiences. Meeting and staying with locals is the best way to do that! I love learning about new cultures.

Interests

The outdoors/nature...skiing, hiking, trekking, water sports, boating, road trips, traveling, learning about new cultures, meeting new people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing?! I feel like every trip is amazing in its own way. In the past 5 years, I have or will have:

- Going to Shanghai, Thailand, and Cambodia for 3 weeks (June 2019)

- Going to Spain and Morocco for 10 days (March 2019)

- Going to Cuba for a few days to experience the culture and provide aid to the people (Thanksgiving 2018)

- Going to Iceland for a few days...hoping to see the Aurora Borealis! (October 2018)

- Spent another couple of weeks in Australia. Got to stay at Park Hyatt Sydney for free (credit card perk), and spent a week driving around FNQ (Far North Queensland)...primarily the Atherton Tablelands and Cairns. Got to see a platypus in the wild! I could live in FNQ. (Summer 2018)

- Spent 10 days in Nepal and a couple of days in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is INCREDIBLE! (April 2018)

- Spent 10 days in Barcelona, Spain, and the surrounding area (Spring Break 2018)

- Spent 10 days in Budapest, Hungary, and Croatia (Thanksgiving 2017)

- Spent a month (Summer 2016) traveling abroad...a week in Italy, then on to Beijing for a couple of days (Great Wall of China!), then on to Tokyo for a night, then to Australia (drove from Melbourne (Great Ocean Drive...meh) to Sidney (wow!) to Cairns (Great Barrier Reef) and back (skied near Canberra on the way back), the back to Japan to see Kyoto (magical!)...and stopped in NYC for a day on the way back home.

- Spent a week in South Africa (self-drive safari in Kruger National Park...unforgettable!), then a couple of days in Poland traveling to and visiting Auschwitz Concentration Camp (Thanksgiving 2016)

- Trekked to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal. Annapurna is one of the 10 tallest mountains in the world. Incredible people and incredible scenery. (Fall 2014)

- Went on a 10,000 mile road trip from Dallas, TX, to Alaska. You haven't gone on a road trip until you've done this...and it was such an amazing trip...so much natural beauty. I'd repeat this trip every summer if I could. (Summer 2014) I also flew up to Alaska twice (Summer 2016 and Summer 2017) to enjoy the beauty and catch some fresh Sockeye salmon.

- Went on a 6,000 mile road trip through Europe (Spain, Portugal, Andorra, France, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic, and Germany)...it was as amazing as it sounds. Didn't make many friends because I was constantly on the go, which was the only disappointment. (Summer 2015) I've been back to Europe a couple of times since this trip...spent a week driving around Italy (Summer 2016) and about 10 days driving around Italy, Switzerland, France, and Spain (Spring Break 2017).

- Went to South America to see Iguazu Falls (Brazilian side) and Machu Picchu. Both were incredible, and made some good CS friends in Peru (who I never got to meet, sadly). (Fall 2015) Correction, one of those good friends moved to Australia and I got to meet up with her in Sydney (Summer 2018).

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd be happy to help with or give advice on any of the following topics:
- computer selection/upgrade and or home networking
- computer lessons
- chemistry tutoring
- home construction/remodeling (electrical, plumbing, framing, etc)
- home security (IP cameras, motion detection/recording/remote access, etc)

What I Can Share with Hosts

As an educator with over a decade of experience, I suppose we could have a hours-long conversation about what's wrong/right with the American educational system and our country in general. As a technology teacher and former science teacher, I enjoy conversations about technology, scientific research, etc. But I enjoy less "academic" things as well...anything outdoors (snow sports, water sports, hiking, fishing, etc), construction (I'm remodeling my house), home security, etc.
