Overview
About Me
I am Faisal, I live with my family in a small town called Bajo, 15 minutes from Belopa, South Sulawesi Indonesia. I also share to locals about reducing, reusing and recycling. In addition, we have even created our own recycle center here at the school, which is the first in Bajo!
Our new recycling center also includes a composting area that will be used to further enrich the soil of our organic farm. In addition, we hope to begin community programs where our students will organize trips around our town to clean up the streets and parks, recycling trash found on our land.
Some programs also to reuse plastic bottles for planting. We plant flowers and vegetables reusing plastic bottles. The work in our farm involves landscaping, creating plastic bottles into flower planters, planting, painting, and anything as required. Cleaning around the house is also appreciated.
Beside of sharing to locals about Environment, I am also a High School student who loves the English language and have a passion for sharing my love of English to others. It was my passion for teaching that led me to open up my own English class at my home in Bajo. In September 2015, ‘Our Chance’ school for teaching English officially opened and we already have over 2 classes with an average of 13 students per class. So far, students ages range from 7 to 19 but hope to expand that to all ages.
My method is to make English fun of learning utilizing informal modes of teaching so the students can better understand and perhaps even enjoy the learning process. I started the school so that I could share my knowledge of the English language so others may benefit from it and have better opportunities for their future in the job market. My vision is to provide a fun and engaging place for people of all ages to come and learn English.
So if you are also welcome to help us teaching English, we really appreciate it.
We're the friendly family who welcomes people from different regions, cultures, and traditions.
Bajo is one of the best places for traditional food in (Luwu) South Sulawesi. We will provide you three meals a day. It's gonna be prepared by me, my Mom and if you'd love to help to cook, We'll be very happy!
There are three simple rooms provide it, two wooden rooms outside and one room inside of our main house with a mattress, pillows, and sheets of each room. The washroom is really the local style (where you take a small scoop dipped into large tub or container of cold water and pour the water over yourself), and squat toilet.
To reach us, you can take a flight to Sultan Hasanuddin Airport (Makassar). From Makassar Airport you have to take a bus ( Daya bus station ) to Belopa, then the bus will drop you off in Belopa. It takes 6-8 hours to Belopa, then in Belopa we will pick you up to our simple house.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I wish for People to help teaching English to children ages 8 to 11, teenagers 16 to 19 years old, and even adults 20 to 25 years old. Provide an art and craft class to the kids, help with social projects (Recycling plastic bottles, Sharing about the environment, and cooking traditional dishes from your own country). Teaching is required for 3 hours a day (maximum). If volunteers can help with painting, we wish they can paint our classes as beautiful as possible to provide a comfortable zone for students to learn.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I started teaching English few years ago, and finally I can run my own place in my town. Even it's just a simple place to study English but I'm passionate about sharing to people about English. So I think it's not the problem.
Teach, Learn, Share
Bajo is an excellent place for many varied activities. We usually go to the beach 45 minutes from our home stay). There's also a very beautiful river close to our house where you can fish in the fresh water.
We have many hiking/trekking opportunities here where you can see the lovely landscapes and swim around the waterfalls. One of the most famous waterfall inLuwu is Tumbubara waterfall.
We live a short drive from Tana Toraja, a unique tradition in South Sulawesi or known as the ghost of Sulawesi. There you can do such a nice camping, visiting caves where you can only find the human corpse inside, etc.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We consider everybody who comes to our house as our family. We love sharing, cooking, laughing and even joking with each other. We are a Muslim family where people thought we might be so strict to others or do not appreciate others. We need to convince you that, we love peace, we understand the differences and we never think that we are different.
For us, everyone is equal. We treat everybody as our family and we would like to prove that living with us is like being immersed in our culture as valuable travelling that you never feel. We think that travelers here will have experience to remember, something that is so much different from what they are used to live at home. It's your turn to feel and see it by yourself!
