About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Cheers to more travels and more friends!

ABOUT ME

I am Rey. Optimist. Simple. Easy to Please.

I always love going to new places and meeting new people. I believe that strangers are friends we haven't met yet. I am most of the time, a daring adventurer but can also be very laid-back. I am always up for adrenaline-pumping activities, the scarier and the riskier - the better. I jump cliffs, rock climb, and do waterfall pass dives. The calmer side of me is always thrilled by the idea of travel, of long bus rides, of sunsets, tropical breeze, and provincial music.

I can be anywhere: traversing a muddy and dense jungle, swimming with whalesharks, picnic on a mountain top, hammock nap inbetween coconut trees, dancing in the shore full of glowing planktons, ba-baaath in the rain, playing shadow puppets inside a cave, attending fullmoon camps, booze cruises though I don't drink, or grilling hotdog in a beach bonfire.

You will also catch me top-loading a jeepney in the middle of dawn, scuba diving, eating wood worms or duck fetuses, stargazing, rappelling, waking up to frozen morning dews, lying on a slope higher than the sea of clouds, sunbathing, and or simply sitting on a tree branch letting time pass by.

I spend my leisure time mostly with nature and with my buddies who have the same interests as me. I am spontaneous and a free spirit, up for anything happy, wholesome, and fulfilling. I want to meet people who are cheerful and have stories to tell.

PHILOSOPHY

"Choose Happiness" :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am glad to have met Paul Murray ( last September 2012). He explained the concept too perfectly that I was instantly hooked to the idea. After our 3-day camp at Mantolongon Highlands, I immediately joined the Couchsurfing community. I have met a lot of great people whose character and positive outlook in life are too contagious.

Couchsurfing changed my life (literally). I have met new friends and it opened doors to a lot more opportunities, travels, adventures, and self-discovery. It also made me more thankful and positive.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was overwhelmed by how welcoming and tight this community is. Everyone is cheerful and happy aaaand trust me, it is contagious! You can't help but be like them, you'd actually want to be more and more like them. They are fun, easy to please, and always warm. One of the most unforgettable meet-up I had with local couchsurfers is when I celebrated my 23rd birthday. I met, for the first time, a group of people whom I can truly say are heaven-sent. I have met Gwen, Din, Cez, Erik, and Nikki. They are the most humble, most cheerful, friendly, and most down-to-earth people I have met so far. We call ourselves the bowling gang because we played that sport on my birthday. We also had a karaoke night and had a memorable picnic. Evenif it was our first time meeting each other, it felt like we were long time friends. We instantly clicked and we shared very rich conversations - the CS magic as they say! My first impression to this community was surreal, almost perfect. I liked it so much that I even started organizing more and more outdoor activities and couchsurfing meet-ups after that. Now, my circle of friends had grown unbelievably enormous.

Interests

I'm into mountain climbing, rock climbing, trekking, canyoneering, cliff diving, camping, island-hopping, spelunking, water zorbing, snorkeling, beach bumming.. (Whew! That's a lot of iiings) To summarize things, I am mostly interested to nature trips and outdoor activities. I also love to travel but I prefer going to remote, hard to reach, and non touristy destinations. I love it when the place is still virgin and non-mainstream. I also have a soft heart for kids and the needy that is why I am really an advocate of charity and volunteer work.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a LOT. I am a science and current events geek. My bookshelves are mostly piled with reading materials about scientific findings, biology, natural disasters, history, geography, and news. Anything educational and trivial draws my attention.

I also read novels. Dan Brown's and Robert Pattinson's. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is one excellent read. Brown's Deception Point and the Da Vinci's Code are both a suspense masterpiece. I used to be an author coordinator by profession but it's funny that I don't get to read that much. My job steals that time. I am there to assist the needs of my clients like the author's preferred marketing package, design, and lay-out. I have limited to no time reading manuscripts because it is handled by a different team.

I love music but it hates me. I don't know why but I can't really memorize lyrics. Some kind of mental condition I guess. I also watch movies a LOT. I am not a brutal or psycho person but I always want to watch thrillers, suspense, or anything that will definitely give me a scare. I loooove HORROR and WAR movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have many stories I consider amazing, mostly the memories I spent outdoors no matter how simple they are. My travels taught me a lot. I've done solo hiking, solo caving, solo traveling. I can also easily jive a group. I love to go out with friends exploring nature and I find each date amazing. I have many tales of adventures, misadventures, near-death experiences, and new discoveries. I will share my little world to you in one of our future travels. It would be nice talking to you on a beach bonfire or while sharing nibbles and a refreshing drink on a plateau.
