About Me

Someone once accused me of being not a real person; rather, an amalgamation of literary allusions and poetic themes.

I'm 23, studied industrial design and am currently working as a furniture carpenter. I grew up in Cambridge and Lincoln, Massachusetts, but have moved around a good bit, still trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with my life.

I tend to be an early-to-bed, early-to-rise kind of person, inclined towards swapping stories over drinks with friends, rather than nights of rowdy clubbing. I like to believe that I have a few worthwhile tales. I always travel really light, and very cheaply, keeps things simpler.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've hosted a number of people, all of whom have been great fun (pleasantly surprised). It's good to meet local people, and great to have places to stay all over the world.

Interests

Craft or building things, general DIY ethics, the sea, bicycling, fermentation, sailing, bleak wilderness, foggy days, unlistenable music, local beer, mead or wine, tea, puppies, piglets, breakfast, baking, lunch, cooking regional food, dinner, furniture and graphic design, story telling, architecture, travel (of course), folk art, history, tattoos, pipe tobacco, large installation sculpture and esoteric science.

Music, Movies, and Books

While I don't have much time for movies, I do listen to a lot of music. I usually prefer it to be unlistenable, some sort of metal, or punk, ideally with needlessly complex composition. Though not exclusively by any means. I'm also pretty involved with the chiptune scene in Boston and New York City, I've been producing music on a small art record label from Chicago.

A good friend and I are writing a novel about a series of unlikely characters with skin diseases.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been on a row boat in the north Atlantic, lit below by a trail of bioluminescence, under a clear starry sky, but a few kilometers to the north a thunderstorm was raging, and you could see every lightning strike.

I've seen the world's largest tree, walked on the earth's mantle, driven over the alps and toured North America with my former band.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook and bake. I worked as a fishmonger and thus, cook a lot of fish. Many of my recipes are fairly traditional of New England/Atlantic Canadian cuisine, but I'm well versed in other styles, and am always willing to learn.

I'm really interested in the DIY ethic. Anything I can make myself, I do. Bikes, boats, furniture, beer, cheese, and clothes. I'm a trained woodworker, machinist and an untrained electronic musician (specifically chiptune), though all that's unlikely to be covered during travels.

I'm very eager to learn just about anything you have to offer. Recipes are great, as are any small simple crafts you may happen to know. I'm also keen on learning some new languages, my current selection is lacking.
