About Me

I'm from the east coast of the USA, but live and work as an educator teaching English in Bangkok. One of the reasons I moved here is to travel around Asia, as well, but having spent two years doing so, I am now setting my sights on experiencing Europe.

I had lived in Virginia in the US my whole life before coming to Asia, but have made a great decision to explore other parts of the world. I really enjoy life in Thailand because it's more relaxing here than living in the USA was.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's important to understand and make some connection with the local culture of any place I travel. I'd love to get a more personal experience than just staying in a hostel or hotel, so I decided to try Couchsurfing.

Learning about the places I go to is just more fun when staying with local folks.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've been listening to a lot of jazz, classical, and vaporwave. Sometimes I preferred listening to podcasts when walking to work. My favorite one is called "This American Life."

I love reading both nonfiction and fiction, but like to be nerdy and learn about English language too, which helps me with my career building. I recently enjoyed reading a book by Jonathan Franzen, an American author, called "Freedom." Right now I'm reading the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, but honestly it's kind of boring. Tell me a good book to read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I finished university I got a job as a butcher and also was doing an internship at an urban farm at the same time. I would ride my bike between work and the farm five days a week and bust ass doing farm work. I was rewarded by being able to take as much of the unsold produce as I could fit in my backpack after harvest day.

I've had experience doing physically demanding work, but now I'm grateful that my line of work is mental rather than physical. I enjoy my work very much.

Teach, Learn, Share

The city I lived in for 5 years before moving to Asia is very historic. Richmond was the capital of the Confederate states during the American civil war and has many statues of important military commanders on horseback throughout the city, much to both the chagrin and admiration of locals. These remain a controversial reminder of our past.

In terms of it's more modern appeal, it also has tons of fantastic street art--a range of murals can be found on the sides of buildings in every part of the city.

What I Can Share with Hosts

cooking techniques and recipes from my years in the food industry in the United States, as well as new ones I've learned in Thailand. I like to cook my own food whenever I can, including when I'm on vacation.

I was also a gardener for several years, so I'd like to help you with your plants of all kinds.

I love to have drinks while sharing stories and thoughts.
