About Me

Hey you! Currently I am a 3rd year undergrad student from Turkey, studying mathematics and living in the capital city of Ankara.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was already traveling to places either I knew so much about beforehand, or knew nothing about. I was reading and watching stuff about different cultures. These were all before I knew couchsurfing existed. So after I heard about it, I thought why not. And the experience I am getting out of it so far is fan tas tic. Met with great people, done some cool stuff. Plan to continue doing more :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Huge fan of rock; old stuff, progressive, psychedelic, experimental etc. To name a few artists/bands that I listen to: The Smiths, Porcupine Tree, Kingston Wall, Brand New, BadBadNotGood, Pink Floyd, Kyuss, Anathema, Radiohead, Slowdive, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Pearl Jam, Beach Fossils, Tame Impala, London Grammar, Incubus, Beatles, Interpol, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Camel... Yeah, I told you that I am a huge fan of rock. I made music in my highschool years, played piano and electric guitar, formed a band and mostly played rock. But I think I am pretty knowledgeable about all genres, listen to classics, ethnic stuff, the microtonal stuff from my own country, pieces from Ottoman makam music, some asian stuff lately. Soo, yeah, music would be a great topic to have a conversation with me :P

For movies, I mostly follow some websites and critics recommendations, because cinema, like any other industry, produces so much shitty content and life’s to short to kill time with those stuff. Some directors that I really admire are Richard Linklater, Wes Anderson, David Lynch, Woody Allen, Danny Boyle. I try to watch any piece of art that those guys are putting out, and any other movie that is close to that circle.

For books, I like to read contemporary pieces, but recently I am more focusing on the classics, really enjoy the Russian Literature, Bulgakov takes the lead easily. Cannot really name them all, need to check my goodreads profile and update this later :D

Teach, Learn, Share

Can teach you some traditional Turkish dishes, can cook pretty much anything if I have the time. Legends say that I make the purrrfect burgers. Other than food, can tell you about the history and culture of my country, teach some basic Turkish, give you tips on where to see and where to avoid in Ankara. If I’m not busy with schoolwork, I can show you around, museums, good cafes, castle etc.

I’m really interested about learning different cultures, so anything that you have and I don’t, I’m open to learn that... Started taking german classes recently, so if you speak german, it would be good for me to practice.

I live in a 3 room apartment in the heart of the city by myself, so I can share enough place for you and your stuff, a clean bathroom and ready to use kitchen. And my time, if possible.
