About Me

Hi, I'm Phillip. I'm a Minnesota native now living in the Powderhorn Park neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Over the years I've had many chances to travel by foot, cycle and more. I love learning and meeting new people. I work in the mental health field and am an amateur singer-songwriter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've had many "couch surfing" experiences that weren't facilitated through this website - both hosting and being the recipient of others hospitality. I was able to use couch surfing on a trip to Norway in 2019 and it was the adventure of a lifetime! I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my hosts and want to do some more hosting myself.

Currently my home is shared with 5 humans and 3 animal friends, but there may be room to host! In my back yard are two tiny dwelling-places which are my "summer bedroom" and "winter bedroom" (see photos)... now that the weather is warming up, one could be yours should you stop by for a visit.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music lover with interests all over the map... but especially good singer-songwriters... a lot of music from the early 70's... and always discovering new musicians, lately I'm enjoying Vulfpeck, Louis Cole, Jacob Collier. Some of my favorite movies include the many of the Cohen Brothers films (they are from Minnesota) and anything that makes me laugh, feel, think. A few books that influenced me early on were Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Zorba the Greek, Siddhartha... Calvin and Hobbes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia in 2009. Once-in-a-lifetime test of perseverance, teamwork, resourcefulness... learning how to laugh face down in the mud.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to share good conversation and stories. I'll sing you a song. I'll write you a song! I'll make you breakfast. Ask me to help with a your house project, or to brainstorm for your startup. I'm full of good ideas. I can give you tips for traveling in the US, or for long-distance hiking trips. Mostly I just enjoy heart-to-heart connection and a good laugh.
