About Me

Hello there!

I'm a Mexican guy trying to see the world, and not just physically, but intrinsically. I am a Marketing graduate, but I currently don't practise it, other than small freelance jobs. Currently, I am living in Madrid, Spain working as a part-time English teacher and doing some freelance Marketing jobs.

An innocent "gap year" in León (Spain), turned out to be 4 years in Spain. After failing to get a permanent residence, I decided to go do a Working Holiday in Australia. I landed in Melbourne and worked there for 7 months and absolutely loved my time there. Next up, I took a tiny holiday to New Zealand, and of course COVID happened. Borders shut down on me and wasn't able to get back to Melbourne, and stayed in New Zealand for almost 2 years. I based myself in Wellington, and lived a relatively normal life without pandemic. After all of these, decided to go back where I was the happiest - Madrid. Let's give it another try!

I am very adaptable and very outgoing :) I am slightly shy, but I warm up to people fairly easily. I am always willing to try new things (especially food and travel!). My friends say that the best word that describes me is "noble"; which honours me

I could have very deep conversations about life at all times, because that is how you truly understand people and how who they are as a result of their surroundings and bounce off ideas from other cultural backgrounds and life experiences. That's what makes us human, no?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

By traveling and Couchsurfing, I am hoping to really see the world for what it is and its people. Going to a hotel takes a lot of the experience away from traveling. Almost feels like you're going to a nice room with the same brands and environments you're used to, and that for me defeats the purpose of traveling.

People can truly infuse you into a culture, thus me taking this route

Interests

I am very passionate about history, politics, films, football (soccer), music, and art, and of course traveling.

Traveling has become the latest one and it is just growing more and more! I have been very into electronic music lately....all of a sudden I am more interested in the small print in festival's lineups than the headliners :D

Music, Movies, and Books

I have always been very keen on indie music, classic rock; and lately I have been very into Electronic music. Ranging from House, to Techno, to UKG, Breaks and contemporary. Some expamples would be Kiasmos, Nicolas Jaar, Honey Dijon, Nils Frahm, Jon Hopkins, Four Tet, Hunee, Kornel Kovacs, Olafur Arnalds, .... I could keep going forever!

For Movies: I like movies that make you feel and think a lot. Amores Perros and Fight Club are my favourite movies, to give you a rough ideas what are my favourite types of movies...

I'm not to proud to say this, but I am not much of a reader, but slowly I am indulging in some good books. However I could not get enough of "The Psychoanalyst" by John Katzenbach. Currently reading some Saramago. My favourite book is "Travesuras de una niña mala" by Mario Vargas Llosa.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not sure if this is amazing but interesting, but lived in a small campervan for 2 months during lockdown in Christchurch (New Zealand)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love talking about my country, Mexico. I like to think of myself as an ambassador for it, and always promote it, defeating some bad publicity we get from it :)

Having said that I love learning about a place's history and culture, and what a better way of doing so than meeting people from other cultural backgrounds

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am fluent in Spanish and English, and always willing to help my friends to improve. I am always willing to help them practise. Likewise, I like to learn about peoples languages and cultures.

While I love bringing people souvenirs from Mexico (or Spain, my current home), it is hard for me transporting and keeping it simple and nice. With that being said, I am always more than happy to take my hosts out for drinks or dinner. I will always offer myself for any sort of help they might need.
