About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Meeting as many amazing people from Couchsurfing as possible...

ABOUT ME
I am an open book so feel free to ask me anything you think might be important.
I am open-minded, queer and quite laid back, I love having fun and generally I don't sweat the small stuff! Life is too short.
I am passionate about what I do simply because I love to meet new people all the time. I am fiercely loyal and my friendship lasts a lifetime.
Like everyone on here I love to travel and am lucky enough to have a job which allows me to travel for 6 months every year whether 5 months in South America or meeting amazing people for a few hours. I've had fun times and saw mind blowing sights. I also adore where I am from; despite having visited some 30+ countries my homeland of Ireland is still once of my favourite places in the world.
I speak 2 languages fluently (English and Gaelic), I can communicate fairly well in a third (French) and I speak basic Spanish. I believe it is very important to at least attempt to learn the language in any country one visits so that that initial barrier can be broken down. Unfortunately, languages are not my strongest point but I'm a friendly happy-go-lucky sort of soul who will find other ways to communicate.
As I mentioned earlier I am a very approachable guy, an "open book" in the proverbial sense, so please feel free to ask anything at all.

PHILOSOPHY
Live life like you have a short time left...dance like nobody is watching and laugh so hard from your belly that your soul will sing.
I am a huge believer in karma. I always try to help people and treat them as I would like to be treated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I want to offer my home to couchsurfers from all over. I'm also keen to see what surfing is like while I am travelling...both meeting people for beers, chats and maybe being lucky enough that they might want to host me. I have been utterly blessed by the surfers I have met so far in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Italy, France, Ecuador.
I'm really into the idea of hosting Couchsurfers who might be interested in WWOOFing outside of the restrictive nature of the formal organisation...if anyone wants to come work on my garden for a week (5 hours per day) or more you'd be especially welcome...my garden is too large for me to manage by myself. It is not a certified organic farm or anything commercial.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
When I first started traveling I was fortunate enough to know many people around the world who were hospitable enough to have me (and sometimes my friends!) stay with them as we got to know where they were from. This was friend of a friend stuff. Nothing as organised as Couchsurfing! But it opened the world to me...every person you meet is, after all, a doorway into another world which is there to be explored.
So far I have surfed with some amazing folks in Chile and Ecuador who opened up their lives, their hearts and their homes to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Tarnation - an amazing documentary. Anything by Tarantino, classic film noir, capers, comedies, dramas with smart snappy dialogue particularly (I loved Six Degrees of Separation for example). I also am a huge fan of independent film and some standout Directors for me are Hal Hartley, Todd Haynes, Todd Solandz and Don Roos.

Nick Cave to Johnny Cash, Hot Chip to CSS, Serge Gainsbourg to The Beautiful Girls, Divine Comedy to Bright Eyes...

The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, Catch 22, The Third Policeman, A LIttle Life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every day I see something amazing and mind blowing.
Specifically I lived on an uninhabited island in the South Pacific (Tonga) for a month.

Teach, Learn, Share

I work in tourism so really I have a wealth of regional knowledge to share with any guests. Everything from music, to dancing, films to poetry, sightseeing to food...
