CURRENT MISSION
to find the comfiest couch
ABOUT ME
Seattle-born and raised. I absolutely love my city, yet enjoy spending as much time away from it as possible! I love to be outside and equip others to do the same - I instruct mountaineering courses and facilitate school outings. Right now I'm following any new path that presents itself and excited for it. I've been doing a lot of work in environmental policy lately and I plan to head to grad school in the fall. I'm also interested in global politics, international development, ultimate frisbee, bicycling, and cooking.
PHILOSOPHY
I find joy in most everything. I think people need to travel. It gives you a more open mind and exposes you to new ways of thinking. We always hear about globalization this, international that. Go be a global citizen and see what all the fuss is about.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Done a bit of surfing, here and there and hosted the odd couch surfer. My living situation doesn't allow for me to host very often, but I've enjoyed the opportunities I've had!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've only used this site a few times, but I've crashed on my fair share of couches in the informal couch-surfing sector. My favorite experience on CS has been rolling into Santiago after a 24 hour bus ride. My host was headed out for an all night bike ride and asked if I wanted to come along. So we biked 140km out to the coast with hundreds of other people. It's the longest ride I've been on, I've never been so exhausted, and I almost lost him at one point. But I'm so happy I said yes to his offer - it feels so emblematic of the wonderfulness of CS.
Interests
I love camping, hiking, and trying new things. I'm semi proficient at scuba diving, horseback riding, sailing and kitesurfing. I love working with kids, mostly because I have no trouble getting on their level; I'm a playful soul. I'm a politics and built environment nerd and I love learning about other cultures and absorbing new perspectives.
Music, Movies, and Books
I'll read just about anything; on a non-fiction kick right now though. Huge podcast person, love NPR. Music-wise, I love that indie-rock stuff. Avett Brothers, Alabama Shakes, Dawes, the list would go on if I wasn't worried about boring the odd passerby.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Probably swimming in Mantenga Falls, Swaziland. My friend and I were terrified of the murky water and what might be in it, but we had heard it was swimmable. Best thing to do on a hot day, and we had tourists taking pictures of the crazy people going for a dip. Plus there was no hippo/snake/parasite attack!
That and seeing Obama's inauguration.
