ABOUT ME

I graduated in December 2006 from social and political faculty. I'm a researcher in Board of Research and educational office Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. Now, Besides conducting scheduled research, I am still active in several community developments in Yogyakarta, especially to campaign about environment issues. I love those issues because I have watched and read so many facts of earth destructions caused by people. Furthermore, I also wrote my thesis entitled “US Rejection on Kyoto Protocol Ratification: Consider from Industrial Interest in US” to finish my under graduate program.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For me, joining this program is very beneficial to increase my experience by made some share discussion concerning with some issues especially environmental issues and to actively campaign a global awareness of environmental problem to the real action. As a fresh graduated, I have a very strong concern on the issues of environment and I want to dedicate the rest of my career to the protection of the environment.
the other important things for me, i could have networking program and share with all friend from around the world.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

In 2005 I joined the Sahabat Lingkungan Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (Shalink Walhi) community, an organization which was originally created by the Walhi NGO. At that time, the members are still a few. However my colleagues and I work hard to increase membership and activity by inviting others from the Universities in Yogyakarta.

There are several programs and agendas that we have been developing and implementing until now. The monumental one is the earth day celebration on April, 22nd 2005. The theme of the action was “back to earth, do not make pollution!!”. This is our best program of that year because we were successful to campaign the environmental problem in Yogyakarta by making the biggest letter ever made and sent it to the King of Yogyakarta. The messages on that letter are made especially to the king to tell people commitment on environment condition, especially air pollution in Yogyakarta. We thought that our struggle was not complete without any government support. This action was considered and recorded by Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI) as the biggest paper recycling project ever made in Indonesia. The size is 5,4 m X 6,8 m.

We collected all of the used paper from the public. Even though not all of the public were supportive and enthusiastic, we persevered and felt it was important for them to be exposed to our program. We hope that they have more awareness in the future and start to see the economic and health sense to make their environment cleaner by saving and recycling as much as they can. The facts showed that recycled garbage has economic value both to the end-user and recycling companies that can make a business profit.

There were some other agenda we did to celebrate the earth day such as happening art, environment movie show, discussion and music festival. These events were special gift for Yogyakarta people who supported our struggle to against global warming.
