About Me

Hi there, I'm Robin

It’s been a while since I used Couchsurfing. Just decided to sign up for the payment plan. Mostly looking to meet some nice locals and travellers, not so desperate for places to crash anymore as I was travelling some years ago.

I'm originally from the south of Germany and currently I live in the beautiful port-city of Hamburg in the north. I'm a very lively, talkative and outgoing person though inside me there does rest a pensive and contemplative soul. The consequence of this mix is that I really do like a good conversation!
When I was a teenager I wanted to become a translator because, having started off with French and then Spanish, I adored learning and speaking languages. Anyway, fast-forward a decade, I studied Physics and have a job working in Artificial Intelligence - so you never really know where you’re going to end up :D But I still love languages and travelling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I sincerely believe that seeing a new place through a local's eyes is about the best experience one can have as a traveller. As a guest I've experienced great things that just wouldn't happen to you when staying in a hostel. And as a host, not only have I met many interesting new people of all walks of life but also I have discovered that I derive great pleasure in sharing my knowledge and impression of the city I live in - which, in particular in Hamburg, helps reinforce my appreciation for this amazing city.
In the end, I think staying with locals always gives you a more honest and in particular less short-lived impression of a place. I guess if you're just looking for a thrill then hostels will do fine. But if you're seeking to peer through the cracks and produce new insights and memories to cherish then couchsurfing is the way to go!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Even though I've travelled far and wide in many places away from home, one of the most memorable travels I've embarked on was the time I took my little 50cc motorbike on a month-long trip all across my home country Germany with a tent.
Also, in Canada I saw a humpback whale surface right in front of the beach where I was camping - magical!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I make a kick-ass guacamole!
