ABOUT ME
While Peter grew up in Kenya and Melissa grew up in the US, we met when we were 12 years old in Africa and rendezvoused 10 years later in the US to finally get together and travel the world! We have been married almost four years and have moved quite frequently for our work (mainly in the humanitarian sector). Over the past two years we have lived and worked in two different States in Sudan, Kenya, and Haiti and called a tent, a hut, and a cottage our homes. Obviously we love travelling and meeting people of other cultures!
PHILOSOPHY
We believe in the slow life, that life is about people and the relationships you have and the little pleasures you savor in life instead of rushing through it. There is an African philosophy called "Ubuntu" that says that our identity comes from our interconnectedness. Desmond Tutu explains it like this, "A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based from a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed."

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: We don't get to see too many movies out here, but one of our all time favorites is the french film, Amelie.
Music: A little bit of everything, but especially some jazz and funk. Our most recently loved tunes though are from Andrew Bird.
Books: We love reading books that tell stories of real people's lives or to learn a new skill.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Getting married on a rooftop in Fez, Morocco at night by candlelight, just the two of us.
Teach, Learn, Share
We have recently gotten really excited about food and cooking (now that we don't live in a hut or tent and have an actual, though very small kitchen). We would love to share in cooking a meal together and learn about other cultures through learning a new dish or sharing our skills.
