Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We believe that if someone is couchsurfing, they are taking advantage of the ability to explore the world and open their minds without having to spend excessive money. If you come into our home, there is no obligation to be our friends or spend time with us. We will be as generous as we can and offer you whatever help we can in discovering our little corner of the world, but if you want to do that by yourself, we won't interfere. We're happy to know that you are having a new experience in your own way.
We expect the same when we're surfing. While we will make every effort to respect our hosts and show our appreciation, and will be glad to spend a bit of time together, our time away from home is precious, hard-earned time, and we'd appreciate being able to spend it our way.
We believe Couchsurfing is a way to enable people to travel and have enriching experiences.
That said, if you're cool people and we want to hang out together and become friends, here's to making the world a smaller place!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Hosting: In Toronto and Belleville I have had some cool experiences. Travelling: coolest experience was in Whitehorse. The CSing community is so small there that I found out everyone had talked about me - when I met them all in front of a midnight bonfire at a music festival. Jessica, whose last name I forget and who I never actually contacted through Couchsurfing, but who ended up hosting me three nights, was the coolest.
One tip to travelers: take advantage of local knowledge. Ask, accept and enjoy. Don't spend your days on the computer or going to restaurants - unless you're a foodie of course - but then appreciate the uniqueness of the place you're at and the richness of being able to access the people there.
Interests
Art, travel, hiking, photography, news, politics, books, people, and shooting the s**t.
What else? I am a sponge, introduce me to something I should be interested in.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Done: Walk 1000 km across one of the world's most debated piece of land so that I could understand exactly why it is so coveted. Still don't get it, but my thigh muscles are incredible.
Seen: Mountains. In general, I love mountains. Being on the top of a mountain is like being above the sky. The ocean is also amazing. And some of the things my dogs do.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach anyone how to PROPERLY use a camera, what I think about life, a whole lot about musical theatre and why singing and dancing in the streets is nothing to be ashamed of.
I have a lot to learn too and I'm open to anything. On my list: how to build a tiny house, driving manual transmission, paddling a canoe properly, surfing, sailing, scuba diving (any water sport really), how to make a living on the road, talking to people, books I have missed out on.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm a decent cook and happy to prepare a meal in exchange for a place to sleep
