About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Doing what I would do if I was not afraid of.

ABOUT ME

A bookworm. A sleepyhead. A scientist. A dreamer. An over-thinker.

I am curious, honest, selectively social, talkative, sometimes malicious, ambitious, but a flash in the pan, unfortunately, trying to be active.
The biggest lesson I've learnt is that there's nothing wrong with making mistakes - if only you are aware of making them.

I am also an enemy of this cliche: "I am open-minded, easy-going, I like travelling and meeting new people" - believe me or not, but this sentence can describe almost every traveller, so it doesn't make you a beautiful and unique snowflake ;) Let's better quote Richard Dawkins in here: "By all means let's be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out".

PHILOSOPHY

"If I am what I have and if I lose what I have who then am I?" - Erich Fromm

"You are not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet" - Chuck Palahniuk - "Fight Club"

"trying to extend myself, to communicate" - Inside Out ("Burning fight")

Dalej idąc, dalej dojdziesz; dalej siedząc, dalej siedzisz.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because there is no better way to get to know a place than through people who live there :)
And also because I generally like the CS community, so it's a great social tool, as well - but I think it would be much better if people stopped sending copy/paste couch requests or hoping that CS works like Tinder - no, it's not a hook up site, so if you send me a completely impersonal invitation "for a drink and hang out", probably it's gonna be ignored.

Interests

Trying to do and discover something new every single day.
Collecting memories. Literature of maaaany kinds.
Absorbing tones of music records.
Adoring rock concerts.
Enjoying urban exploration.
Science, especially microbiology.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I used to be a grunge chick some years ago, now I'm definitely more eclectic: genres like industrial rock, progressive rock, cross-over, stoner, folk rock, fusion, world (klezmer, fado, latino), riot grrrl, ska, hc, punk.

Top bands: PINK FLOYD and solo albums made by David Gilmour or Roger Waters or Syd Barrett, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, King Crimson, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Joy Division, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Hole, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, The Mars Volta, Depeche Mode, The XX, Сплин, Duman, Lao Che..

Summary:

Movies: everything of Fincher, Kubrick, Inarritu, Akin, Jodorowsky, Lynch, Kieslowski;
Top movies: A Clockwork Orange, Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Kontroll, The Deer Hunter, Nicija Zemlja, Monster, Primal Fear, Fiddler on the roof, Ondskan (The Evil), American Beauty, Battle in Seattle, Silence of the lambs, Lepa sela lepo gore, The Elephant Man, Johnny Got His Gun, 12 Angry Men, Blue Velvet, Space Odyssey, Fight Club, Seven

Books: my taste is quite varied and I don't know what to begin with! Usually, I carry two different books with me all the time, so when I'm bored with one, I can start reading another one.
I firmly believe that poetry improve human's imagination. Well, perhaps Polish so-called turpism poetry isn't very gentle but as authentic that I adore it (Wojaczek, Bursa, Poświatowska, Grochowiak). Other whom I like are Norwid, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, some of Bukowski.
Belles-lettres can be also valuable although it's only fiction; the main advantage of reportages is that describes facts, lies are not necessary to create an interesting plot, it's made by life solely (favourite reporter - R. Kapuscinski). Coming back, for me "Crime and Punishment" is one of the best belles-lettres book I've ever read, together with other Dostoevski's book - "The Idiot" (although he didn't like the Polish ;) ). I also like Kafka, Orwell, Gombrowicz, Pamuk, Vonnegut, Palahniuk, Huxley, Bradbury, King, Harris..
Recently - psychology and philosophy (Zimbardo and Fromm!). and pop-physics (Hawking, Kaku, Randall). and Richard Dawkins - both about atheism and evolution.
And because I'm obsessed with rock music and its history, I also read thousands of books about the bands I like - that helps me to understand their music much more, knowing the reasons behind the lyrics :)
