One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the best day of my life:

During the monsoon season of 2024. My maternal uncle, who owns a herd of cows, often takes them out for grazing during this season. I had done cow gazing when I was a child until I began studying engineering at the age of 16. Now, as a design engineer living in Vadodara, far from my village in Kutch, my life is deeply embedded in the urban rhythm.

But recently, I had the chance to revisit this simple yet profound experience after years of living in a modern city.

Early morning at 6 AM, I grabbed a *dhoko* (a bamboo stick) and set off with my uncle, cows, calfs, and the guard dogs. We walked 15 kilometers across vast green plains that seemed to stretch to the horizon. My uncle sang traditional songs during the journey, and it felt like being transported back in time.

At 10 AM, we paused to make chai, savoring the warmth of the drink while enjoying the endless greenery and white clouds above. The cows and dogs, calm and peaceful, were perfect companions for the moment.

By 12:30 PM, we reached the bank of a lake, where we had *bapora* (lunch). After the meal, we lay down for a few hours, resting under the open sky. A quick nap followed by more chai completed the afternoon.

As the day neared its end, we started our journey back around 6 PM. The setting sun cast a golden hue over the plains, and as we walked toward my uncle’s farmhouse, we continued singing traditional songs, the melodies blending perfectly with the natural beauty.

It was a day that reminded me of my roots, of the joy in simplicity, and the deep connection with nature that I had long missed.
