About Me

Hey everyone, I'm David, but I'm known to most of my friends as Parkie. I grew up in the small nation of Scotland, did the working holiday after uni and ended up getting hooked on travel, seeing the world and such. I've just arrived in South Korea to work as an English teacher. Will try and make the best of my time here and just see what happens!

I'm an outdoorsy, adventurous sort. Anything that's new and untested= exciting for me, whether that's going to new places, trying things for the first time or meeting new people. If an opportunity for something arises, I tend to go for it, I'd much rather try something and have it maybe not work out rather than be left wondering "what if". That mentality has led to many of the best times of my life.

As much fun as big trips are, it's people that make it a journey (cheese alert!). My experiences tell me that you can be in an absolute hole, but if you're there with great people, it can still be an awesome time. So I'm very friendly and sociable, and I definitely like a good bit of fun and silliness too, life shouldn't be taken too seriously!

In terms of places I've been, I've seen a healthy chunk of the world now. Been round Australia, New Zealand and South America pretty extensively, been to a lot of the states, road tripped through a good chunk of Europe and last year I travelled China and South East Asia.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've made some friends travelling who swear by this site. It seems a great wee tool to have just in case. I'm still a relative newbie here, but I like doing a bit of everything, whether that's hostel's, Airbnbs, camping or crashing on someone's couch from here.

Couchsurfing was pretty awesome to have when I did the Euro road trip. I had people join me for legs of the journey, stayed at a few kinds hosts and took advantage of the events and hangouts part of the site too to go to cool things and meet more people. It can be pretty sweet for making new pals, not just finding a place to crash.

To sum it up, I always keep an eye open when it comes to meeting new people and making new friends. If there's great sounding people out there, I'd be delighted to meet you, go for a beer, a hike into the hills- whatever, let go! :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite artist, it's gotta be Michael Jackson- can't beat it!

Films wise I love the Rocky Movies, while Good Will Hunting is one of my favourite ever films too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Maybe not the most amazing thing I've done, but in terms of an absolute all in a moment high, it has to be the BUNGY!

Taking the plunge and going travelling to various far off places has been the best move I've ever made...every time. But I'm probably preaching to the converted here!

Ran a marathon the day before I left home too, in beautiful short pink shorts. 7000 runners in the race, I finished just outside the top 10. Next time I might even try training for it!

*Edit. Just noticed that it asked for one thing. Oops! Oh well, what you gonna do?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Oh here goes....!

In terms of what I like about myself, I would say I bring a fun and friendly energy wherever I go. I'm grateful when people do things to help others and I always try and ensure that any generosity is rewarded. I am always happy to share a bit of Scottish culture and history, I'm proud of my heritage and people seem to enjoy getting an insight into that. I've also become something of a story teller I guess too, I've had some awesome, interesting and plain weird experiences and I like sharing those stories as well as hearing other peoples.
