ABOUT ME

I'm Michal, a normal 27 year-old guy who lives and works in Pilsen. I was born in the Czech Republic in the city Jindřichův Hradec; this is a picturesque south Czech traditional city with a very nice historic castle, but unfortunately, I don't live there right now. :-(

I am an open-minded and friendly person who wants to meet new people and share this life experience with them.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a newbie to this community so I'm not sure exactly how I will participate in this -- I would like to meet new people and from there I will decide what to do next. I have much travelling experience in the Czech Republic and in some foreign countries, so if you have questions about travel plans I am happy to share my experiences and opinions with you.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have some experience with the couchsurfing community: My friend Pavel has had several couchsurfers at his home in Pilsen. I was there while he hosted the surfers and we talked about many things; for example, we talked about our cultures and the differences between them. It was an incredibly interesting talk. Pavel and I showed them our city and the Pilsen brewery where they tasted a classic Pilsner Urquell beer. At the end of their visit, they invited us to their country.

Interests

I love travelling, especially discovering new wonderful places. I travel a lot by hitchhiking or by plane. I always have a good time when I travel, no matter the weather or time of day. Are you familiar with the book "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac? He always said the goal of the tour isn't important but just being on the road, living life, is what truly matters. I 've found out that there is no place on Earth I'm not curious to visit.

I like sports but not as a professional player, only for fun. I enjoy running, cycling, swimming, in-line skating, squash playing and most of all, bouldering. (Bouldering is climbing on a plastic wall.)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books by classic authors such as Franz Kafka, George Orwell, John Wyndham, Mario Puzo, Karel Čapek (my favorite Czech author; he invented the word "robot" -- great author), Guy de Maupassant, Ray Bradbury, Charles Bukowski, Josepf Heller, Ernest Hemingway, Jack Kerouac .... and many many others.

I particularly love Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams as the phrases 'Don't Panic,' '42' and 'Towel Day' aren't unfamiliar to me. :-)

Back to books. I find that the detective stories are boring because the story lines are very similar to each other, but sometimes I read them for their simplicity.
I like music as well. I like every kind of music. My most favorite genres are rock, indie, indie rock, female vocalist, classic rock, alternative rock and genres similar to them. I have a profile on last.fm; if you want to see it you can find me by my nick "partri". But I think the profile doesn´t accurately reflect my taste of music. For example, I like the artists: Manic Street Preachers, Queen, Jack Johnson, Camera Obscura, Metric, Muse, White Stripes, The Fratellis, Fool´s Garden, Bob Marley and many others. I really like the oldies 50´s, 60´s, 70´s and 80´s.
