Sobre mí

Short version of me: Don't know what to do with my life, but I do know that I love travelling so that's what I'm gonna do until I figure out what else to do. ;)

It's been way too long since I travelled, but the time has finally come. Due to Covid, and then a few injuries, I became "stuck" in Canada for a few years, but now I'm ready again. Japan, I hope you're ready! I have a working-holiday visa, and hope to work a ski season this winter (2024/2025) and spend the rest of my time exploring. My main goal when it comes to travelling is not to visit any place as a tourist, but to experience the culture as best as possible; get an idea of what it's like to be a local. I've found the best way to do so is getting a job in the country I'm travelling to, volunteering where possible, and staying with locals on couchsurfing! This way, I can meet people who live in the area and get to know the culture and language best :) This is also why I tend to stay in countries for a long time-longer than most travellers! Currently aiming to stay for a whole year in Japan, but who knows!

Here's a brief summary of my life if you care to read it all:

After high school I spent a year abroad in Costa Rica, also visited a few other countries; Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras. After getting back, I started university, where I was studying theatre, but I decided I was not ready to embark on studies that would lead me straight into a career (or lack thereof). So I worked hard, and saved enough money over 9 months, after leaving my studies behind, and then left for South Africa. Long story short, I spent 6 months exploring 6 different countries in southeast Africa, doing some volunteer work but mostly unplanned backpacking.
When my money ran out, I came back home, found a job again, and applied for an Australian working holiday visa. It took me 6 months to save for the big trip, and I spent a wonderful 2 years in Oz, working some but I'm so happy I took the time to see the country properly. It's something I try to convince every traveller to do. It's a big country and tough to see it all, especially the hard-to-get-to, remote places, but it's soooo worth it.

After Australia, I went on a working holiday next door to New Zealand, where I spent an amazing 2.5 years, working a few ski seasons, volunteering on different farms, hiking and hitchhiking all over the place, and meeting incredible people. When Covid began, I stayed in NZ, but eventually had to get back to Canada as travelling was no longer an option back then.

Since then, I've been in Canada, eagerly awaiting to travel again. At first I was going to head out the moment the pandemic was "over", but then I had a few injuries which forced me to stay longer and heal. Most of this time was spent living and making incredible memories in the town of Revelstoke, BC. But now, I'm fully healed and so excited to dust off my backpack and hit the road again!

...
Originally, I wanted to keep going after New Zealand and backpack my way through Asia and Europe, which would've taken me another few years before getting back to Canada. And then if I still didn't know what to do with my life, maybe spend a few years going through Peru-Mexico overland. Oh oh oh and I have this wild idea to bike my way through Canada too, from one end to another, but with lots of preparation and training beforehand.

...
I have no idea when or if I will go back to complete a degree in University. I am not ready to commit to anything but travel right now, working small jobs along the way to pay for my adventures.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I use couchsurfing as a means to meet new and interesting people, as I'm tired of only having myself as company haha. Of course it's a plus to have a place to stay, but I'd rather stay with you if we can hang out. Not that you have to show me around or anything, in fact I can take care of myself if necessary haha but I use this website to meet people and spend time with them, not just for a place to stay the night :)

Also, through experience, have realized the priceless experiences gained from staying with locals, which have provided me with unforgettable moments that I will forever treasure. Money can't buy that! I look forward to the day that I can host others and return the favour. For now, I try to do so by helping others in any way I can!

Música, películas y libros

Music- I guess everything except most Country and Heavy Metal, screaming type. Bands I like: Macklemore, Imagine Dragons, The Beatles, Queen, Lindsey Stirling, TwentyOne Pilots, Half Moon Run..... soo many more. I prefer acoustic based music. I'm also learning how to play guitar and bought myself a travel sized one last summer.

Movies/TV: For the few times I do watch movies, I mostly like the Sci-Fi type, Comedies. I do love a few television series though; Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, etc.

Books: I have always been a huge book nerd. I love fantasy and sci-fi, fiction of course :)

Algo increíble que he hecho

Left everything I knew behind to spend 6 months "on my own" in southeast Africa.

Sailed overseas from New Zealand to Fiji

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I am willing to teach anything I know to anyone who asks nicely. Everyday has something to teach me and I try to soak it all in. And if you want me to, I am more than willing to share. This includes the languages I know, sushi-making, anything!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

My language skills- help you with French, English, Spanish; I am fluent in all 3.
I can teach you how to make sushi (this was pertinent on previous travels- but I imagine most people in Japan can actually make better sushi than me haha!
I can share my few travel experiences with you.
I love baking and would love to make you a cake or cupcakes or muffins or cookies, providing you have the utilities in your house.
My cooking skills! Happy to cook for you, with you, anytime.
What else? Anything that I have to share, that you want me to share?
I am more than willing to spend as much time as you'd like with you, because that's what I like to do with couchsurfing-meet new people and spend time with them.
