About Me

IMPORTANT: I am not paying for CS all the time. For my friends on CS who would like to reconnect, the best way to reach out to me is via WhatsApp/Line/FB Messenger if you have those or send me an email at patrick.leongzw@gmail.com.

I consider myself a liberal global citizen and an adventurer at heart. Personality-wise, I think I'm pretty independent, progressive, free-spirited and into pursuing unorthodox ways of life (at least, for Singapore standards).

Travelling is my biggest passion and I feel most alive when roaming around with minimal plans and exploring different cultures. My ideal way to spend life would be to travel the world while working remotely or after retiring early, immerse myself in the culture of the places I visit and enjoy slow-paced, varied living while making a positive difference wherever possible.

I solo backpacked/hitchhiked a lot and sailed around the world onboard a cruise ship as a translator/interpreter in my early 20's so I do have my fair share of travel tales to exchange if we ever go into that conversation :)

Interests

I enjoy anime/manga, gaming, documentaries, karaoke, hot springs, saunas, learning languages and trying out new food despite my unsophisticated palate.

I'm also typically a fan of the outdoors; I like hiking, camping, cycling and taking long walks. I can walk up to 20-30km in a day when sightseeing and attempted (but unfortunately didn't completed) the 88 Temple Pilgrimage in Shikoku, Japan.

Speaking of Japan, it has a special place in my heart. I'm still very much into Japanese (sub-)culture and it's what got me into learning the Japanese language.

I studied music and audio technology in high school and enjoy all kinds of music too. My favourites are chillstep, fusion jazz, most rock/metal stuff, and game OSTs.

I'm also pursuing FIRE and plan to retire in my 40's if possible. I just invest passively into world ETFs but happy to discuss investing/FIRE if this is an interest we have in common.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I'm into a wide range of stuff, ranging from fusion jazz to metalcore to anime/game OSTs. Some of my favourite artists are toe, Nujabes, Snarky Puppy, Tycho, and Modest Mouse

Movies:
Don't watch many movies these days, but open to recommendations!

Books:
Don't read much either (other than manga), but I usually read non-fiction. An impactful read that I still remember is Bullshit Jobs:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sailed around the world twice!

Teach, Learn, Share

Singapore culture/history of course. Other than that, I studied audio technology in high school, went on to do freelance translating/interpreting, and am now in the tech/IT field, so happy to share anything about my career journey that catches your interest.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Anything to not make you feel used:

My friendship, my limited knowledge, my limited repertoire of Singaporean dishes, English or Japanese language practice, stories and discussions to pass the time and anything I'm capable of helping out with. And of course, my time and company too; when I stay with hosts, I usually make minimal plans on my own and would prefer to spend time with them, unless they're busy.

Happy to chip in some cash for groceries/food/gas too, just let me know!
