Overview
About Me
"breathtaking..." - Huffington Post
"★★★★★" - New York Times
"so witty, and handsome... " - my mother
Patrick is (fortunately) not a movie (yet), but if it were, it'd be a Terrence Malick, art-house film, meets Studio Ghibli animated whimsy, with casting done by John Waters; music by Philip Glass; and narration by Sir David Attenborough.
Following the story of a young Korean man battling the burgeoning New York city art-scene, Patrick escapes to Austin - an awkwardly homogenous white city - where he experiments with redefining himself and finding love. There he waits tables, teaches yoga, escapes to nature, comically gets absorbed into the emerging tech scene, and meets a range of amazing humans, from substandard to heartbreakingly perfect. Will Patrick discover his purpose? Will he find love in a city of fleeting millennials?
(Insert Goosebumps "choose your own ending" end-note)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've had some great experiences being a host. Since I've started, my home has transformed into a nightclub, a banquet hall, a yoga studio, a movie theater, a meditation circle, and a nap pad. My home is alive, and so am I.
I hope to offer my passion for building communities by sharing my love for travel, and people and their stories with you.
Interests
I enjoy nature very much...learning about it, reading about it, breathing it in, and hiking it's trails.
I cook quite a lot. In fact, I worked professionally as a chef for some time. So if you can savour the idea of being pampered to a nice home-cooked meal by yours truly, I can promise to fill your soul and belly.
I like to do favors when I can, because I feel the most happy when I know I can make your life slightly easier.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a sensitive man, and I can only say vaguely that my choice movies, music and books vary in how they affect me.
Movies should either take the wind out of you from laughter, or leave you silent in their wonder/drama.
Music should tire you from all the dancing, or arrest you in nostalgia.
Great books should (IMO) always make you reflect upon people, yourself, and the world.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Can you really pick one?
I have walked the white blazes of the Appalachian trail. I have seen the Bastille Day fireworks on the Seine River in Paris. I have protested against nuclear energy in Berlin. I partied for days on Mykonos and Santorini. I swam naked in the Pacific when the new year came to Costa Rica. I've made people fall out their chair in laughter all over the world.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you my methods in cooking, and how to dance like a moron like me :)
I would like to learn about your life and culture, and how to play an instrument (any is fine!).
