About Me

I live 2 minutes (5 minutes if you walk slow) away from a beach in the Mediterranean with my husband.

I love:

all kinds of music,
all kinds of films,
making illustrations,
meeting new people,
noble causes,
unusual pets,
playing ukuleles and guitars,
comic books,
sci fi anything,

I volunteer actively at charities/non profit organisations while living as a freelance writer and constantly trying part-time jobs available in Cyprus.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My husband has his own Couchsurfing profile where we respond to requests from intrepid travelers passing through Larnaca. If you are interested in staying with us, go to his profile:

https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/daniel-bennett-2

I use this profile to find gracious hosts as I explore other parts of Cyprus or when I arrange trips that mean that I cannot get the bus back home.

I take my ukulele everywhere with me, so if you would like to try it out or get a lesson or two from me, it would be a pleasure to teach you something new.

Interests

I have played the ukulele since 2010, having performed on stage at ukulele group events back in the Philippines.

I am an avid film buff (I love digging up old films), and I never refuse bacon and coffee.

I love talking to all kinds of people because each person's background will always have a fascinating aspect.

Exploring new places by wandering around with the right company can really make my day.

Music, Movies, and Books

Off the top of my head:

Music -- Regina Spektor, Beatles, Fiona Apple, Foo Fighters, Hozier, Billie Holiday, Inkspots, Paul Robeson, Green Day, Spice Girls, Jewel, Nirvana

Movies -- most Audrey Hepburn films, most Humphrey Bogart films, most Sidney Poitier films----wait, most films, full stop. I watch all sorts of films, from David Lynch to Frank Hennenlotter to Michael Bay. Indie films and summer blockbusters. I watch everything.

Books - fantasy novels like George R.R. Martin, C.S. Lewis and Terry Pratchett; non fiction like accounts from World War 2,1, or before as well as autobiographies of people that amaze me like Stephen Fry, Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis; whodunnits like Agatha Christie; sci fi novels like Timothy Zahn in the Star Wars universe; macabre short stories like Roald Dahl's, or bittersweet life realities like those written by Alice Munro; the fantastic poetry by Shel Silverstein, etc. etc. etc

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the world of amateur theatre, I have been in the cast of 4 different productions in the span of one year, including a play where I played a ghost that kept showing up in bizarre parts of the stage---like a tree outside some French windows.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a reformed English grammar obsessed fool. I once taught business English for a living and now realise that there are many kinds of English and that the most brilliant people I have met operate outside English. I only share my professional grasp of it with people who actually genuinely want to wrap their brains around the language.

I am always on the lookout for people who can converse with me in Greek, because I speak it like a 5 year old and am in constant need of practice with very, very patient folks.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Music, stories, quips, anecdotes, 33 years' worth of experiences and even a look into the culture I grew up in, if hosts are interested in South East Asian cultures.

Except jokes. I am seriously into puns and it's not everyone's cup of tea. PREVENT me from cracking too many pun jokes.

I am also into digital art (Sketchbook Pro on my tablet) and should be practicing this more.
