About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I love meeting people from around the world and I love travelling.

ABOUT ME

I remember filling in a form for a police check (required in Britain for any job involving children and vulnerable adults). I had to list all my addresses over the last 5 years. I had nine! Two in the USA. I was helping my daughter with her baby for 3 months and also another 3 months looking after an elderly couple who I became friends with when living in North Carolina. 3 months is the length of the visitor visa. Other addresses have been live-in nanny and caring for elderly people jobs that for different reasons ended up being of short duration.

I didn't include the week I spent in a job in Hong Kong. My employer realised I needed a work visa and packed me off home before he got caught by the authorities. That job was the shortest duration, beating the last one by two weeks!

I've worked at several occupations including driving a taxi, waitressing, shop assistant, nanny, governess, receptionist but I've been a primary teacher for over 25 years and most of that time has been as a supply teacher in different schools. There seems to be pattern here. ;-) My first teaching job lasted 6 years though, but I did teach 3 different age groups within that time.

I have two wonderful grown daughters and four delightful grandchildren (plus a lovely son-in-law too).

PHILOSOPHY

I have a cheerful disposition because I choose to have one. :-) I could be depressed and morose and negative (and have in the past) but it doesn't make me feel good so I choose to smile and laugh instead.

I take responsibility for my life, my health, level of abundance, emotions and for the circumstances I find myself in. This is very empowering. It means that I can change it (according to God's will). I didn't say it was easy but then I also take responsibility about the level of struggle I choose to have too. lol.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In the early 1980's I hosted a couple from Lebanon who taught be how to make hummus (before you could buy it in the supermarket).
I also hosted a lady who was walking around the world (for peace). Her name was Beth from Dallas, Texas and we 'instantly knew that we knew each other'. Sadly we lost touch when both of us moved house at the same time.
I've hosted a few couchsurfers unofficially including one guy who, having arrived back in Britain was searching for a job and would wotherise be homeless.

Interests

I am on a path of personal development striving to be a better person each day. With the emphasis on the striving.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is another interest or rather a tool to help me become a whole human being.

I love being outside in the sunshine. In England, if the weather is warm enough I have the windows and doors open if I have to be indoors so that I can feel connected to nature. I don't, however, have a passion for being outdoors on a chilly, damp day of which there are quite a few in England. However, I do enjoy being out on a crisp, sunny, snowy one.

I am also interested in respectful parenting and home educating children - enabling the child to learn what his inner self needs to learn at the moment he needs to learn it. (This is the philosophy behind Maria Montessori education.) This is why I gave up teaching because I realised I was part of the system that hurt more children than it helped.

I enjoy interacting with friends on Facebook because many of my friends are in different countries. I love learning and enjoy surfing the internet.

I don't watch TV and prefer to get my news from alternative sources.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love listening to uplifting classical music and choral music like Gregorian chants and choirs. I also love Christmas carols, Indian bhajans and traditional Chinese music (the plinky-plonky stuff).

I don't watch many films but I enjoy wholesome ones like The Sound of Music, Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, all the Jane Austin films and (the new version of) Pollyanna. I also enjoyed August Rush and Somewhere in Time.

I don't read many novels but do enjoy the Little Women series, and Ann of Green Gables and Pollyanna and the Milly Molly Mandy stories.

I tend to read non-fiction books about nutrition and health. I also read spiritual books by Elizabeth Clare Prophet. Personal development books are also my other interests.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in Montana USA, I was awestruck by the mountains and the fact that I could see the Milky Way above me. No light pollution!
I loved the beautiful majestic trees in North Carolina and Louisiana.
I adore the green rolling hills of England and Wales.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm knowledgeable about nutrition, alternative therapies such as energy medicine and EFT (emotional freedom techniques) or 'tapping' as it's sometimes called.

I love to learn about other cultures and ways of looking at the world.
