About Me

Hey everyone! My name is Patrick and I am a technical consultant for blind-specific products.
I've been grown up in Stade, a small city near Hamburg; but eversince 2007, I got used to traveling, as I left home to attend a boarding school in Marburg specialized on blind and visually impaired students. Therefore, I tried to travel home as much as possible or travel elsewhere to catch up with friends, especially outside Germany!
Btw, please excuse the less photos I have, maybe I'm gonna update this section later on. ;)

Also, as I travel a lot, I started a blog on which I post my travel experiences. Feel free to take a look at it! You can find it hereunder:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to travel a lot, in worst case even on my own and - more or less - fully independently. But sometimes, friends are busy when I am not, and I rather go somewhere to meet new people and get to know other places than staying at home, being bored to death. :) Also, it is more difficult and expensive to arrange a room in a hotel/hostel, not knowing the surroundings to well.

Sure I'm blind, but that's no obstacle when I travel, as long as I can find people who'd like to hang around with me for a while and, in best case, can even host me for some time.

Interests

  • meeting people
  • i like traveling
  • getting to know other places and have some fun

Music, Movies, and Books

I must admit that I stopped listening to mainstream radio a few years ago. I am not completely against electronic music featuring DJs for example, but the kind of music they usually play on the radio nowadays doesn't really suit me anymore. I appreciate handmade music, pop, rock, metal (symphonic metal most preferred), and especially folk and powerfolk. My current favorite band is SCRUM, a Dutch band playing powerfolk songs. I also like to read a lot. Thanks to Kindle, even I can enjoy a huge variety of books that are not available as audiobooks or printed in Braille.
As for movies, that's a little difficult... Chrime movies and comedies are quite nice, but I'm open for a lot, although I am no big fan of romantic movies in general.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The reason why I like to travel a lot especially internationally is already stated above... I've got a lot of friends living in different countries and we gladly visit each other.
I met most of my international friends on ICC, an international camp for blind and visually impaired people. I attended ICC in Riga, Latvia, for the first time, which had a huge influence on my entire life, especially as far as meeting people and traveling is concerned.

I furthermore try to attend English meetings and couchsurfing meet-ups in Marburg regularily, and found a lot of friends there as well.

Teach, Learn, Share

Phew, that's difficult...
I like to learn about other places, the people and their culture.
If you think it's difficult handling me being a blind person, I can probably teach you very quickly. Don't worry, it's easier than you think, and most likely you will find out yourself without I have to teach you too much.

What I Can Share with Hosts

as you probably already noticed, I've been touring a lot of countries already, so we can share experiences and talk about different cultures as well. ;)
