About Me

I'm an Atlanta native and a recent-ish graduate of Georgia Tech. I'm currently a software engineer for a big telecom company, but I'm strongly considering going to law school next year. I love traveling and spent a summer in Asia and a semester in Washington DC in college.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just moved, so I'm not in a position to host right now, but eventually I'd like to turn this into an opportunity to meet new people from around the world and add more cultural diversity to my life. One of my favorite parts of traveling has always been meeting people from different backgrounds, so I hope to be able to offer a place to stay for people that can bring culture to my life. I'm hoping if I pay it forward, people will be more accommodating to me once I accumulate enough vacation time to take a long trip.

Interests

Political discussion - I'm involved in a fair number of political organizations and have put together debates, protests, and lectures.

Shooting sports - I'm a member at the local gun club and practice with pistols and rifles probably twice per month. I occasionally do competitive events and practice drills. I was vice president of the marksmanship club in college and keep in touch with many of the members.

Cooking - I love cooking; I lived with a vegetarian for about a year and learned to cook several tofu based dishes, but I'm also fairly well versed in Italian, Mexican, and American foods (both with and without meat).

Video games - I love strategy games, and spend an excessive amount of time playing Civ 5, but I also enjoy co-op RPGs and FPS games such as Borderlands or Resident Evil if my guest was interested in a game night.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a native of Atlanta and can take people around the city. I lived in midtown for four years through college and know the nicer parts of the city fairly well.

I can teach people to shoot, if they are interested; I'm a member of a local gun club and have safely taught people to shoot on multiple occasions; if anyone wants to learn to shoot with an American, I'm your guy and promise not to make it weird.

I can provide an introduction to Southern Food and American Food, both of which are amazing. I consider myself a decent cook, but will probably also take you out to eat somewhere delicious that can provide a better sampling than I could.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I might be able to provide a different world view, I come from a very conservative part of the country, and while I consider myself a political moderate, any time I've had intellectual conversations with non-Americans, it always turns into "why do Americans do this," and I may be able to answer that. I'm also happy to chip in for beer money and buy my host lunch.
