When I'm not teaching preschool, I'm probably playing ukulele or drawing. I write a lot, mostly poetry or non-fiction. Usually a blend of the two.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I read a lot of non-fiction. Memoirs and biographies and essay collections. Paul Feig, David Sedaris, Anthony Bourdain, Chuck Klosterman. But I read a lot of everything, really. Alas, Babylon, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Great Expectations, Slaughter-House Five, 1984, World War Z, all kinds of stuff. I'm also a huge fan of graphic novels. I write children's books, so I read a lot of those, as well. Also, I really really dig Calvin and Hobbes.

Movies: I love everything Wes Anderson and Pixar - and I'm a big fan of documentaries. I really dig Sam Rockwell. I prefer Life Aquatic to Tenenbaums - deal with it. I like movies about the apocalypse and robots - hopefully a mix of the two. I dig musicals, 80's action movies, zombie movies, and movies with subtitles.

Shows: Parks and Recreation, The Office, Community (I have a messenger bag from Greendale Community College. Try to restrain your jealousy.) The Walking Dead, Party Down, Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Prince of Space is the best episode, just to quell any arguments.), Arrested Development, LOST, Real Time with Bill Maher, Tosh.0, Sweet Genius, Freaks and Geeks, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Rescue Me, Chopped.

Music: Everclear, CAKE, Jukebox the Ghost, Electric Light Orchestra, The Beatles, Dire Straits, Otis Redding, Cat Stevens, Boston, The Postal Service, Regina Spektor, Clem Snide, Ingrid Michaelson, Harry Chapin, Rush, Pomplamoose, REO Speedwagon, Daft Punk. Anywhere from singer/songwriter stuff, to ska, to adult contemporary, to acoustic indie stuff, to power ballads - all over the place.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At the end of this May, I went to Indiana for the Ukulele World Congress. It was a weekend spent camping in the middle of nowhere with 200 other like-minded people. Everyone was there just to spread love and music and good times.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you can't tell by now, I play the ukulele so I can teach you how to play a mean goddamned uke. I'm also really good at voices and impression. All my friends have sat through Voice Acting 101 with me, and have grown tired of my antics.
