About Me

I live in the next biggest city in Denmark, Aarhus, and I love it! Currently studying my bachelors degree at Aarhus University, where I also have a small occupation of proof reading and translating stuff for students to assist my sparse economy :D I love to read and have thus enrolled in a course in History of Litterature this upcoming fall, about which I am very excited. Usually I only read non-fiction (well, that may depend on your perspective on the Bible ;-) ) and I have the impression that non-fiction often is more valuable than fiction, which I of course know is an opinion which is liable to great critique. My enrollment in the upcoming course is an attempt to get rid of (or, at least weaken but it would be to my very surprise if strengthen) this prejudice of mine.

I really love traveling and meeting new people and I found one of the best ways to do so is by throwing yourself in a situation where you need to converse and act with the locals! Hitchhiking is thus my preferred way of traveling, though it takes a lot of energy and time. But meh, time is what you have most of when vacation is knocking on your door!

Furthermore my interest in philosophy has got me sparked in enrolling on a bachelors course at Aarhus University in Denmark. Fields of philosophy which really gets me excited are those related to philosophy of religion - which, it turns out, is virtually everything!

An active Christian faith has also become a huge part of my life since I first got introduced to church by a friend back in the good ol'days. It was really when Christianity got knocking on my door that I decided to go further with my studies in philosophy - back then I really did not know what to believe! Thus having my faith as a coherent part of my worldview means a lot to me, and I love to be challenged on any opinions that I have so that I may sharpen my own repertoire of knives ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As said, I absolutely love to meet new people and I totally enjoy learning all kinds of stuff about cultures, interests and just listen to people's stories!

Still, unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to meet up with any CS's as of yet, but I strongly hope that the opposite will turn out to be the case after my upcoming vacation this summer!

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste of music really depends on the mood I'm in, but I guess that's common for a lot of people. Alternative rock and classic, I tend to enjoy. Also deep lyrics which may be hard to interpret prima facie - and, for some reason, my impression is that such combined with a male falsetto voice and calm soothing tones slams me right in the face with greatness.

Movies - whatever comes from the enriching and exorbitantly talented intelligencia of Hollywood, Christopher Nolan, is blowing things to pieces. Also, Mad Max: Fury Road totally gets the point of movie acumen as the perfect action movie produced by the hands of man.

Of the books I need to mention, I would by my own standards for my own life be a great heathen if not mentioning the Bible (though some books of the Bible are far more interesting and entertaining than others, if I must say it). Now mentioning any other book by name would be kind of arbitrary, as I don't know which has really influenced me more than the other. I really love to read and try to read as much as possible, which, unfortunately, also have the negative effect that I sometimes read the first half of the book, then skip to the conclusion just to make a (qualified) guess about what the whole second half of the book was about - just to get going with the next one in line. I'm trying, I'm trying :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last summer I hitchhiked with a friend down through Europe from Denmark to Turkey to catch a plane from Istanbul to Tel Aviv, which we had preordered some months before. We just made it in about a month of time, just to find out Israel had engaged in the Gaza conflict and rocket strikes in Israel should be expected from the palestinian rebellion groups, resulting in a thoroughgoing loss of tourism in the nation those days (which I experienced myself since I had been to Israel before during tourist seasons). We nevertheless decided to go, and while I would hesitate to pick a side in the palestinian conflict I think the jews were the most hospitable and caring people during our time there. We heard a lot of (and saw some) rocket explosions from strikes after searching for cover together with the natives in the loud surroundings of sirens. Though it was sometimes a bit frightening I must also admit that, together with the native moral and the jewish unity, it was not such small an experience.
