About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am on a mission to challenge myself in any way possible. I have found that what drives me is change. I have an urge to constantly change who I am and the perspective I have. Right now, I want to vigorously shake my world view so that I may grow :)

ABOUT ME

I guess I would say that I am intense. I do everything intensly, including nothing. When I do nothing, I find it to be intense! Fortunately, I don't find myself doing nothing often. I graduated college in May and immediately hit the road! I just got back from a 6 week midwest tour where my band and I promoted our new album (check us out! www.pinotfunk.com). I spent a lot of time in the car reading stuff that I have been wanting to read, writing stuff that has been begging to be heard, and keeping my ears open to new sounds! I come from the Technicolor Tree Tribe â

PHILOSOPHY

I try and avoid overly reflective philosophy. It is remote from life. My "philosophy" consists in living my life. Sometimes, however, thinking about life happens to sneak its way into my unreflected experience of it. When it does, I try and get ZEN on that shit. Empty.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, I clearly just signed up (seeing as I have very few references). So, up until now, I have had little to no direct involvement with this specific CS project. BUT, that being said, I have had many good experiences with couch surfers outside of the context of this site. Like I said, I lived in a Co-op last year, and throughout the course of my time there, we had two people living in the attic for one semester, and another one on the couch for the other semester, and a three-weeker who gladly stayed out on the couch on the front porch of the house. Those were just the long term ones; we often had friends of friends of friends, and even some strangers (but then again, whats a stranger?! :)) stay at our co-op for several nights at a time. Everyone was/is always welcome at our house! Due to expansion of size (and shitty landlords), the co-op moved locations... though I am not paying rent for the house this coming fall, I will be living in the backyard in my tent for about a month! Even now as I write this, in preparation for my Southeast Asia trip, I am couch surfing at the new co-op location! In the future though, I hope to host many many travelers from distant lands and societies!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

By far my favorite couch surfer was Donnie. He was new to LA when he first approached us about potentially staying in the attic. He'd heard about our co-op through some of his friends and really wanted to be a part of it. We all wanted to get to know him better, so we invited him over to hang out and cook some dinners with us (there were 18 of us total, and we had two people cook for the entire house each night). After getting to know him a little better, we had him come to one of our Sunday night meetings. I'll never forget the impression that he left on us that night. He basically started enthusiastically telling us all the things that he would contribute: he could make kombucha from scratch, he could design and create silk screen t-shirts, he was very involved in Food Not Bombs (which ended up taking residency in our kitchen), and he would shower us all with love. From that night on, he lived with us. What remains with me from that night is how much Donnie was willing to offer. Now, when I stay with someone, whether for a night or a year, I turn my energies to giving, contributing, and participating. There is no better way to spread love and develop a lasting relationship!
