About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel westward from Vancouver and keep going west until I get back, dealing with all ensuing adventures with a smile on my face.

ABOUT ME

I'm a designer from Vancouver setting out to travel around the world for a year. I look forward to meeting friendly strangers to help me around, be it a couch to crash on or simply advice.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that life is too short to sit around experiencing the same routine year after year. I value friendship, shared meals, generosity, critical thinking, and putting in the effort to avoid mediocrity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined Couchsurfing before embarking on my trip, but I've been an unofficial couch-host many times for friends, friends of friends, or even friends of friends' bands. I use couchsurfing mostly to attend meetups, meet locals, and get insider advice but once in a while I'll look for a host when I'm in an expensive city for a short stay.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

-Stayed with an amazing host in Shanghai
-Met up with or exchanged advice with CSers all over Asia and Europe.

Music, Movies, and Books

So many! Where to start?
Movies: The Big Lebowsky (or anything by the Cohen brothers), Planet Earth (or anything narrated by David Attenborough), Hanna, Children of Men, Pulp Fiction (or anything by Quentin Tarantino), The Trap, The Century of The Self.

Music: Boards of Canada, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Blonde Redhead, The Beatles, Menahan Street Band, this will take forever so I'll just say that I like any music that has been crafted with care and where the passion can be heard.

Books: Voltaire's Candide, Le Petit Prince, Scarlet & Black, Kitchen Confidential, Heat, Guns Germs and Steel, Plato's Republic, The Odyssey, 1984, Animal Farm

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learned to scuba dive in Utila, Honduras
Lived on a boat for three days diving in the Similan Islands, Thailand
Explored south western france while studying old fortified churches
Sailed in the 29er world championships
Got my university diploma before I turned 20.
Currently enjoying a year-long around the world trip!

Teach, Learn, Share

I used to teach sailing and I now mentor at the Vancouver Film School's Digital Design program. I have always valued learning and teaching. I went to university when I was just 16 years old and I attribute that to my passion for learning and helping others around me find interest in various subjects. I could teach you anything from roasting the perfect chicken to dissecting your favourite video game into reward systems and level design.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States
