About Me

Here's a little bit about me:
I'm 21, male, and on a working / holiday visa. I'll be in Australia for about a year and there's a lot I want to accomplish - above all, independence and self discovery. Aside from other travelling, this is the first time I'm moving away from my parents' house - living and working away from home.

TRIP STATUS:
I started my journey in mid-September in Portland, Oregon, USA. I explored various areas in the Pacific Northwest; visiting the beautiful Oregon coast, the Columbia River Gorge, then Seattle (where I was born), Whidbey Island, and the Olympic Peninsula including the Hoh Rainforest and Olympic Hot Springs. Then I spent three Autumn weeks in Bellingham, Washington doing work-trade for accommodation on shared land. That place had a huge garden.

After the PNW, two friends and I set out for Australia, taking a 10 day layover in Oahu, Hawaii. We enjoyed breathtaking views and ocean swimming everyday. We camped for 6 out of 9 nights near Laie and spent the last night on the floor of the Honolulu Airport.

CURRENTLY
I've been in Melbourne for about 3 weeks now and will probably take the next leg of my journey down to the Mornington Peninsula to exercise my ocean and agriculture interests. Should be interesting! I've done some rock climbing in the You Yangs, where I saw kangaroos and wallabies for the first time, but otherwise haven't really been outside of the city.

I'm looking for places to stay at least a couple days at a time either in Melbourne or further south, but I'm also excited to just meet new people. If you're in town and want to grab a beer sometime, or a coffee, or go climbing or bushwalking or whatever, let me know!

Cheers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to make connections. I want to take part in meaningful activity to grow as a person and work towards mutual goals with other people. I'm also always looking for a place to stay.

Interests

My interests are the outdoors. I'm a nature enthusiast. I hope to do a lot of rock climbing, backpacking/hiking, learning to surf, exploring the barrier reef, the outback, and the jungle. I need to see the barrier reef while there's still something left to it :( and I've really felt a strong draw to the ocean for about a year and a half now. I want to learn to scuba dive and possibly get a job at a dive shop.

I'm also going to do some WWOOFing soon. I have a strong interest in organic agriculture, permaculture design, sustainable community development (such as urban ag and food forests), and just plants in general.

I'm also an app developer / UX designer and have been doing freelance web design for a number of years. I have a few app development projects underway but am currently trying to tackle the business / collaboration side of things because - I've slowly discovered - I simply can't do all the work alone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Boulder, I free-soloed the first flatiron and then forgot. When I was reminded years later, I was like "Oh yeah...That."
