About Me

Queer, urban-leaning vegetable farmer and part-time baker with a new farm nestled in the rolling hills of Western Wisconsin, 8 miles south of downtown Menomonie. Since the end of 2017, my partner, Nicholas, and I have lived here, and we are running a small farm and working on starting up an art residency and eventually farm internship(s).

Our spot is peaceful and spacious in any season! We have a guest bedroom with full size bed as well as a comfy couch in the living room. We hope to build some small living units soon, to be located around the small orchard we are developing.

In the winter, I have a very flexible schedule and am mostly working on farm planning and some extremely serious knitting, crocheting, reading, and dancing to Au Revoir Simone in the living room, while Nicholas currently works mostly full time off of the farm. In the summer, we are both extremely busy doing what we love, including growing all the veggies, grilling, eating meals outside, and walking/biking all over the place. I am excited to have a new part-time gig baking at a cafe that is less than 3 miles from our farm.

We're extremely close to the Red Cedar State walking/biking trail, with 3 access points in a 3-mile radius. By car, Menomonie, Eau Claire, and Durand are very accessible. The Twin Cities area is 75 to 90 minutes away, or 100 minutes if you drive like me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would enjoy welcoming people to our house/farm if they're visiting Menomonie or the Twin Cities, or if they are just passing through. I love cooking with and for people, learning all of the new things, and sharing stories.

After I joined back in 2007, my first surfing experience was a truly awesome one in Minneapolis. I moved there after that, and soon met Nicholas. We've surfed together in Chicago and Baltimore and hosted while living in a few different places.

We have only hosted a few times in the past several years, moving each year and each time to very small apartments and/or temporary living situations! I am very excited to have the wonderful space in Wisconsin now and love sharing it with visitors.

Interests

We're really into cooking with SIMPLE ingredients that were mostly grown right here. I love to bake, especially sourdough bread, pancakes, and pizza dough. We also love: reading, art, museums, urban bicycling when we can, train and bus travel, knitting/crocheting, embroidery, walking walking walking, and hiking. We are actively expanding the parts of our house and barns that are dedicated to creating art, and are passionate about creating lives in which creativity and awareness are combined with good, hard work on a daily basis!
