I'm 55, but seem much younger. I am an energetic adventure traveler. Recently retired from Law Practice and from a part-time career as an Army JAG Officer. I have traveled and adventured in over 50 countries. I lived on a sail boat for a year with my wife and our kids in the Caribbean. We lived part-time in a beach house we had in Ecuador. I did a one-year combat tour in Afghanistan. I lived and volunteered in Bolivia for 2 years. I had work assignments in Colombia, Panama and Mexico. I have ridden a motorcycle all over Ecuador, Baja Mexico, and the United States. I am bikepacking the country of Iceland in June/July of 2023. I am bikepacking the West Coast of Ireland (The Wild Atlantic Way) in September/October of 2023. My wife and I love the outdoors. We cycle, dive, motorcycle, hike, run, sail, swim, kayak, snowboard, . . . We love experiencing new cultures and ideas and food and meeting new people and doing it in a respectful, mindful way. Sometimes we travel together. Sometimes we travel alone or with other friends or our grown kids. I'm an omnivore, so, the best of all worlds. If I'm in the company of vegans or pescatarians or gluten free people or people that are lactose intolerant or allergic to tree nuts, that's all fine with me. I can eat anything, or not eat certain things to accomodate the eating preferences of the people I am with. Pretty easy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There is so much to experience in this amazing world and life is short. One of the most rewarding aspects of travel for me is to be able to meet new people and dive into the local culture, food, traditions and ideas and benefit from the expertise and knowledge of normal, local people, like me. Hosting people traveling from other countries seems like a great way to meet great people and help each other out.

Music, Movies, and Books

70s classic rock. 80s to present alternative rock, blues, . . . I like lots and lots of different kinds of music. I like to read non-fiction and learn something new. I spend a lot of time reading and learning and planning the next adventure. I like comedies. I LOVE big dogs (Retrievers, German Shepherds, Labs, Walker Hounds), but don't currently have a dog. I love meditation, practicing mindfulness, practicing gratitude every day. I try to live in a simple, respectful way and love and appreciate the amazing world we live in.

I can help with English or Spanish language. I am great on bikes of all kinds and build my own high end bikes. I am an expert bike builder, mechanic and outfitter. I am great on motorcycles and can teach new riders and I am a good motorcycle mechanic. I have good sailing skills. I have good navigation skills. I have legal and business knowledge. I have traveled, lived and worked in many countries and have a good base of knowledge for planning adventure travel. I am a really good cook and can share some great recipes from different US subcultures (southern food, BBQ, southwest cuisine, . . .).
