About Me

I have lived in Miami my whole life. I LOVE cuban coffee, and all Cuban, and Latino friends and family. I have worked in construction for the last 30 years. Most recently I have worked for general contractor building restaurants (Pollo Tropical, Mc Donalds, Wendy's). I spend most of my free time in the keys, fishing, and hanging out at the sandbar. At my house in Miami Springs I have a garden. I grow a variety of vegetables, including tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, etc. I enjoy cooking (fish, soup, salads, empanadas). Being in Miami provides me with a great opportunity to meet and work with people from all over mostly Cubans, and Central Americans.

I like to meet new people, and consider myself outgoing. I feel traveling provides a unique outlook, and a path to connect in one way or another with everyone I meet. I consider myself generous and enjoy volunteering and helping others. Over the next six months I plan on keeping a flexible schedule, and taking the opportunity to meet new people through hosting, and traveling as much as possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was recently in Key West and my friend Eric introduced me to a couple who had met Couchsurfing, and explained the concept. I had one of the most amazing experiences when I met a German family camping in Washington State. We exchanged information, and took the opportunity to re-connect in Munich. The experience we had together traveling with locals was just beyond anything I could wish to accomplish on my own. I made the decision to stay with local any chance I could get. Couchsurfing seemed to be the perfect avenue to accomplish this.

I also look forward to hosting, and getting the opportunity to show fellow travelers my home. Living in Miami for 45 years, I have a unique perspective. I have found a way to have a blast without having to go tours or spend a huge amount of money. Also, I have found when you experience new places through a visitor's eyes, the experience is completely different.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am almost done reading the Bible. I love Hemingway books including For Whom the Bell Tolls, Farewell to Arms, Old Man and Sea, The Sun Also Rises, A Moveable Feast, The Haves and Have Nots. Recently read the Alchemist and Papillon.

I listen to alot of Reggae, Alternative Rock, recently started listing to Pachata. Like a variety of Spanish artists including Nicky Jamz and Marc Anthony. I also like Jonny Cash.

I like all kinds of Movies including Scarface, the Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Rock N Rolla, and James Bond. I enjoy a good documentary from time to time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Back in 1998 I invited my Mom to go anywhere in the world she wanted. She had saved up a ton miles for airfare so we booked trip to Yosemite National Park. We thought it would be a one shot deal. We had such a great time we ended up making over 10 trips, mostly in the Pacific NW. We also got to New Zealand and British Columbia a few times. Seeing the national parks, and camping was just amazing. Most importantly I built bond with my Mother that is just something that I am really content with. Those trips influenced my path in life, and opened several doors that I could never imagine more than 20 years ago.
